Okain (aka Samuel Thalmann) took to the turntables at only 15 after being inspired by French legend Laurent Garnier. Through playing house and techno records to his friends, he secured an impressive five-hour residency and an explosive reputation. Before long he played gigs at Rex Club, launched the Kickboxer label with friend Paul Ritch and independently enjoyed several releases on international imprints from Bpitch Control to Tsuba and Jetaime. Continuing his partnership with Jetaime, he releases the Acrobat EP, out on 7th January 2010.

As his first offering since Somewhere Around Tristram this year, Acrobat has the full package with one original and two remixes. The title track kicks things off with a cymbal heavy start and a furious pace that instantly gets your body moving. Out of nowhere, a demonic dark laugh cackles and a cool string arrangement forms the full-bodied melody. About five minutes in, a break that lets the strings shine is swiftly followed up with a thrashing injection of full-throttle beats. Put simply, this track is what tech has been missing!

Up next, Daniel Mehlhart rises to the remix challenge and doesn't disappoint by delivering what just edges it as my favorite of the three. With a mysterious start and searing bass that envelops your whole body with euphoria, it reminds me of the tech gold you'd once hear in super-club Space. Typewriter-like notes add further texture and flickering synths dart over its deep, dark base layer to complete the tune.

In the final mix Alex Dee takes over with a tougher, relentless bassline, banging cymbals and additional percussion. He gives Acrobat a tribal spin and loosing the menacing laugh, focuses on heightening the tension. As the track locks and loads its target on the dance floor, its amazing hook completes the winning formula for a totally packed crowd. Overall, Okain's Acrobat is a outstanding production and should come with the following disclaimer; "this EP demands to be played seriously loud" - any other volume simply just doesn't cut it.
