I, like many others, loathe new years eve. Strangely enough, something about a combination of overpriced club tickets, never ending taxi queue's, freezing weather and jam packed clubs never quite appealed to me.
The answer to this solution unfortunately, lies nowhere near the constantly rain trodden, economically screwed city which this writer calls home. It does however, lie in Raum, the Barcelona based superclub which is opening it's doors on the 1st January for a party which has the ingredients for something very special indeed.
Has New years day overtaken new years eve as the most happening day of the year? While that's a matter for debate, there's nothing debatable about the quality of artists on show here.
With Cadenza records taking rein of the club, punters can expect a party of epic proportions, with label boss Luciano, Reboot, Mirko Loko, Robert Dietz and Gavin Herlihy amongst others, all taking turns behind the decks.
Having made it's name largely on the back of it's Sonar 'Open Air' parties, as well as an uncompromisingly cool underground booking policy, Raum 1500 capacity club , (which translates as 'space' in German) has played host to a number of epic parties since it's opening in 2006. Opening at 7am and going right through until the 2nd January, Cadenza's wonderfully titled '24 Hour Arty People' bash looks set to etch it's name in to Catalan clubbing folklore. Excited? You bloody well should be.
