BLOC 2010 - Indoor electronic music festival, now in its fourth year...

BLOC 2010Since 2007, the UK's BLOC festival has earned itself quite the impressive reputation. Taking place this year from the 12-14th March in Minehead, Somerset, it's new found status means it's now considered one of the worlds premiere winter electronic music festivals. The key ingredient for this reputation, is of course, attributable to the innovation of the promoters. If there's one trait which is valued above all others in the increasingly cut throat world of dance music promotion, it's innovation - clearly something the folks running BLOK possess in spades. Read on and you'll find out why.....

While Somerset in March doesn't exactly evoke the sunniest of images, BLOC virgins and skeptics should however, take note. This is no ordinary festival we're talking about here. Tents? Fuck 'em. Instead of bracing the elements at night time, BLOC visitors drift off to sleep in their own beds, in chalet's in the Butlins resort. That is, of course, presuming they'll want to sleep. Still worried about cold, mud soaked fields playing host to the acts? Again, don't fret my friend - all the stages at BLOC are purpose-built indoor music venues powered by Funktion One sound-systems and mind blowing visual displays - just ask any of the thousands in attendance at Aphex Twin's typically trippy appearance in '09. As an added bonus, the indoor music policy means the sound and finishing-time issues occasionally associated with other festivals is rendered irrelevant. Another nice touch, we think you'll agree.

All this, and we haven't even got around to mentioning the line up yet. With virtually every aspect of the electronic music spectrum somehow represented, BLOC 2010 is as diverse as it gets. Joris Voorn, Marcel Dettmann, Ellen Allien and Adam Beyer do their techno thing, dubstep arrives courtesy of Kode 9 and Joy Orbison, while the drum and bass massive are represented by Instra:mental and D:Bridge. The good news is that, music wise, that's not even the half of it. Impressed yet or still not convinced? If it's the latter, you could do worse than go along for the experience and sample Butlins water park, which we're told is one of the largest and most impressive of it's type in Europe. For clubbers and electronic music enthusiasts, BLOC is simply the closest thing to raving paradise. At BLOC, it seems no stone is left unturned in the quest for a good time. And for that reason, we simply cannot wait.
