What better a way to kick off 2010 than start the festival season early? From February 27th, Future Music Festival is doing exactly that with five 10-hour ‘sonic boom' sessions across Australia. What's more, with guaranteed sunshine plus an all-star cast featuring everyone from The Prodigy to techno king Sven Väth, you'd be hard pushed not to find a reason to hop on a plane and step into the sound of the sun-drenched future.
After claiming two Best Festival gongs in last year's Sony's inthemix50 poll, expectations are high, and this year the traveling events take place over the last weekend in February and the first in March. From Brisbane to Perth, Sydney to Melbourne and finally settling in Adelaide for Labour Day, promoters Future Entertainment promise an even bigger and better show with some of the biggest names in dance, electro, hip hop, pop, rock and beyond.
As predominantly a dance festival, you'll be treated to the incredible sound of Dubfire, John Digweed, Booka Shade, Erick Morillo plus electro lovers Boyz Noize and Does It Offend You, Yeah? As if that wasn't enough, taking things a bit darker will be my personal favourite, Cocoon master Sven Väth and bringing his number one hits Sexy Bitch and When Love Takes Over, will be the unstoppable man of the moment, David Guetta. Promising stuff.
It doesn't stop there though, the explosive Prodigy adds to an already stellar bill and having resurrected their original rave sound of the 90s with Invaders' Must Die in 2009, they are the definitive must-see at every one of the dates. For those looking for something a little less full on you'll be thrown an indie twist with Scots boys Franz Ferdinand, a dose of Fleetwood Mac-inspired retro from Empire of the Sun, and taken on a hypnotic trip with trance DJs Above and Beyond.
Got all that? If not, don't worry, you can check it all out at the Future Music Festival website and pick up tickets starting from $119 at Ticketmaster (naturally, VIP festival packages are also available). With an impressive line-up of acts over not one but five hedonistic events, one thing's for sure, whether you're a dance devotee or just fancy listening to some top quality tunes in the sunshine, you'll be anything but disappointed at Future Music Festival 2010.
