Confidential with... Anthea #16How many female producers can say their track has been spun at Cocoon Ibiza's opening party by tech godfather Sven Väth? Well, one for sure; up-and-coming (or rather, up-and-absolutely-smashing-it) London-born Anthea, aka Anthea Marie Nzekwu. Her Caedmon Loop, a collaboration with fellow Londoner Celler, stormed last summers dance floors to become one of Ibiza's best-loved anthems of 2009. Since then she's gone on to share DJ duties and booths with luminaries like Loco Dice, Jay Haze and Derrick Carter. Not bad for a once-runway girl from the big smoke.

Music always had a strong presence throughout Anthea's childhood. Jamming with her father in a home-based studio, her natural talent for mood and groove flourished. One she started producing, unsurprisingly it wasn't long before big guns T Bar, Faith, Circo Loco and super-club Fabric sat up and noticed her sound that splices house with deeper, darker tech. Now, with regular residencies and releases on every cutting-edge label from Phonica Records to Cécille, it's not only London's clubs but also the international scene that's been calling for Nzekwu. So in addition to her accelerating global popularity, what's next for the happy-go-lucky lady who can't get enough of dance music? We caught up with her to find out exactly that...

1.Where do you call home?
Home to me is London... I've lived here all my life..I love it.. most of my family are here and people from all over the world are here too, its a great place to live..

2. Were you happy as a child?
I was until I was a teenager and then it all went downhill from there... I was a runaway child...

3.How much did your childhood help you in becoming an artist?
Lots.. my father had a small studio at home. Back then it was a Amstrad 8 Track system you recorded on tape... We used to make tunes he and I, I would play keys he would play bass.. (You get the Picture) that was before I became the little rebel...

Do you believe in fate / God?
Hmm I never used to, actually for most of my life I was dead against the idea of a God, but nowadays I believe in an Almighty God...

What or who is the biggest inspiration in your life?
I'm always inspired by people who have a dream and are fearless, and dedicated enough to follow it, no matter what the odds...

Children, yes or no?
Would love some, but not yet! Got two nephews, one a newborn.. I'm cool with that for now...

Who is your idol and why?
No Idols here...

What's the weirdest thing you've done to play at a gig?
I've done many a weird thing over my life but I can't think of anything weird I've done to get a gig, except beg.. but that aint weird is it?!

Which artist or track did you think was no good but became successful?
Most of the tracks that have reached the beatport top 10, are not my cup of tea but the tracks do very well...

One thing you hate about dance music culture.?
To be honest I'm enjoying it so much that I cant think of anything... come back to me in another 5 years...

Best friends in the music business?
Best Friends?? Bit school playground innit?!! But I could list people whome I'm close to and or have inspired, supported or encouraged me in the music business; Such as Alex Celler, Werner Niedermeir, Simon Rigg, Hector, Heidi, Phonica Crew, Thomas from Mojuba Records, Wordandsound Crew, Flying Records Crew, Anthony & Luca (Audiofly), Marc and Nick from Cecille, Jay Haze, David, Charlotte and Amie from Air London, Judy from Fabric, Derren from T Bar, Alex Picone, Guti, Enzo Siragusa, Tony & Dom from Fuse, Dyed Soundorom, Julietta, Miss Jools, Matt Tolfrey & Varoslav to name a few...

Your biggest fear?
When I first started djing it used to be to mess up a mix whilst I was performing, but nowadays I try not to entertain fear at all.. A wise man broke up the word fear for me, he said the letters stood for: False Evidence Appearing Real.. so yeah like I said I try not to entertain that...

Last club you went to party at, rather than to play?!
Think it was when Dyed was doin a Sunday session at TB/R he made me dance even though my feet were killin me, and i think i liked the music so much that I took off my heels and danced barefoot....

After hours; yes or no?
Yes to play at, No to go to...

Penny pincher or big spender?
Put it this way I'm slowly growing into being a Penny Pincher...
