US producer Brett Johnson delivers a tasty slice of American house music on his latest production for the Orlando based Eight-Tracks.
Typical of other releases from the label, this single is heavy on the melodies and memorable hooks and offers a choice dance floor ready remix from [Kontrol]'s Alland Byallo.
Johnson's pass is the standard mix of urban and 2-step beats with building chords constructed of ham-fisted synth pads. The pads give way to low-key vocal cooings followed by a melodic sequence that unfolds in to unexpected tangents.
The results are both discordant and euphonic providing for a track that is slightly left of center. He also offers up a "Space Bump" dub version that recalls the best kind of old school beat tools that used to come on a house record back in the day.
Label owner Q-Burns Abstract Message's remix is a quirky collection of dub-influenced electro boogie that sound like Eddie Grant cutting sides for DFA. This one is better left at home and enjoyed in the headphones but more daring DJs will have to give it a try just for kicks.
In contrast, Alland Byallo's remix is all dance floor business, a fugue of progressive house density and dark, renegade techno menace.
Generally Byallo's music is lighter so this remix comes as a surprise as the talented San Francisco producer gets wicked on the jam making this one of the better late night essentials out there right now.
