Released on Carl Craig's famed Planet E imprint, comes the debut offering from Sandiego, aka Milan native Diego Montinaro. Montinaro grew up listening to the likes of Quincy Jones and a slew of black music - be it funk, boogie, disco or soul. Herbie Hancock, of 'Rockit' fame was another big inspiration to the young Diego.

It's little wonder then, that the 'Memories' EP consists of two tracks of equally funky, delicious, old school appeal.

In the leading track, 'Memories', futuristic sounds of the type Hancock would doubtlessly have approved of sit in harmony alongside shrewd synths and the type of baseline which is once more gaining huge favor in techno circles. The track starts off in a menacing, techno like fashion before dissolving in to a captivating, catchy blend of electro and disco. 'Memories' is so brilliantly "futuristic" in sound that it wouldn't sound out of place alongside most of Model 500's back catalogue. 'Memories' is a which makes for a refreshing respite to the constant bombardment of techno and tech house currently flooding the market.

The electro influence continues on 'Black Keys'. With claps, drums and madness aplenty, it's a more percussive, heavier affair than 'Memories' with another obvious nod to Detroit techno. The moog synth is out again in force here, and what's not to like about the tried and tested moog sound?

If ever there were two tracks suited to the Planet E sound, the 'Memories' EP is it. Two fantastic tracks in their own right, the 'Memories' EP is a lasting reminder why old school electro is perhaps the only dance music genre with a timeless quality.
