Aufgang - the trio comprised of classically trained Francesco Tristano and Rami Khalifé, along with drummer and percussionist Aymeric Westrich are causing quite a fuss with their eponymous long-player on Agoria's Infine´ imprint.

It's a very rich collection of music - as equally influenced by acid house as it is classical music. However, on the whole, you wouldn't be particularly at ease playing any of the tracks to even the most open-minded of dancefloors.

Thank goodness then, for this remix package, and what better way to kick it off than with a customarily jacking tech re-rub from Underground Resistance man Robert Hood. It's an appropriate selection, considering Jeff Mills, another member of the Detroit collective, was partly responsible for discovering Aufgang.

A heavy 4/4 underpins the sparse, ghostly piano motif, with 808-style percussion adding propulsion and zest. It's remarkable immediate, considering the dense source material, and quite excellent. Hood has repetition down to a fine art and when he's on form like this there aren't many who can touch him.

Meanwhile, youthful French experimentalist Mondkopf turns in a slo-mo, electronica-drenched remix which arguably upstages Hood's rub. It's pretty undefinable, but if you think along the lines of Berlin electro innovators Modeselektor ‘going Balearic' then you might just be on the right track. When it reaches it's crescendo on the 3.30 mark, the results are pretty staggering.

So, by the time it comes to Hamburg trio Wareika's 11.50 minute deep workout, you might end up feeling a bit underwhelmed, purely due to the embarrassment of riches on offer from the other cuts. However, don't let its relative subtleties mislead you: it's a spacious, ebbing and flowing offering that's true to the spirit of the original.

This is a package which is diverse and satisfying. While it's only really the Robert Hood remix that most DJs will be reaching for, it's a fittingly imaginative trio of rethinks for an unquestionably gifted group.
