Memoryman is a new alias for Italian DJ and producer Cristiano ‘Uovo' Rinaldi, also a member of the Pastaboys collective. He's got plenty of previous form by himself as well as with the aforementioned trio, releasing records on labels like Rennaisance and Defected.
Why he's decided to opt for a new alias is perhaps a bit puzzling, considering the nature of this release. Whether by himself or with the Pastaboys trio, he's got a knack for making solid house music, and ‘Got A Party' is just that - if a little grittier than what we're used to. It's thoroughly playable, worthwhile house tackle which is very ‘now'.
That said, nobody could accuse him of jumping on any house bandwagons. He's been doing this for fifteen years, after all. Sure, the vocal sample outstays its welcome, and there isn't much to really raise it above the swathes of other similar material that's doing the rounds at the moment but it certainly won't kill a floor.
Tenax label chief Alex Neri, of Planet Funk fame, teams up with Federico Grazzini for remix duties. It's more spaced out and woozy than the original, and really hits its stride on the three minute mark with the appearance of some jacking hats. It's a slow builder, and makes further use of the repetitive vocal sample of the original. In anything, it becomes even more intrusive, although that's just a personal observation.
There's nothing particularly terrible about this record: it'll merit a few spins but don't expect it to be receiving heavy rotation for more than a few months. That said, this sort of thing is really popular at the moment. Joris Voorn's ‘Sweep The Floor' was one of last year's most played tunes, and this in a very similar vein so I may yet be proven wrong....
