Emerging Spanish youngster Daniel Kyo emphasizes his career credentials here courtesy of his 'Your Love' EP, out now on Parisian imprint Composite Records. Not to be confused with Frankie Knuckles genre defining track of the same name, the 'Your Love' EP showcases the talents of a young man with serious scope to his productions. The title track introduces proceedings and it's a heavy, tech house track with more than a hint of menace. Featuring a subtle vocal, sharp synths and a shrewdly crafted breakdown, it'll doubtlessly be well received wherever it's played. My one gripe however, is that the track is slightly generic in nature. Decent for sure, yet there's little here of the type you won't have heard before.
Next up is Swiss native David Durango, whose debut release came out on Steve Bug's Poker Flat in 2008. Durango's remix of 'Your Love' incidentally, fits the Poker Flat aesthetic perfectly. Deep, luscious and warm, his mix is likely to gain plaudits from many in the deep house scene. The same could be said of 'Xtasy', Kyo's next offering on this what is a generous 5 track EP.
Perfect for chilling by the pool if nothing else, Xtasy is reminiscent of Vincenzo's recent remix of Dirt Crew's 'Deep Cover', which is no bad thing. Those looking for another tech house track to rival 'Your Love' however, will be left with disappointed ears.
Relative unknown Tucillo is on hand for the first of the remixes and delivers an inspiring mix which is doubtlessly the pick of the punch here. All bells and congas, Tucillo blends the original with swathes of shrewdly placed percussion which dies down and erupts back to life with vengeance at the 3/4 mark which makes for a simply fantastic effort.
The same however, cannot be said for the LTJ X-perience remix. Clearly sampling an old school funk track, the same problem plagues this track as 'Your Love' - namely that there is nothing new here. While it is soulful and deep, it's also wholly uninspiring and dare I say it, boring. Composite would do well to get rid of the filler, as there are some genuine moments of quality here - it's a pity however, that they're few and far between.
