Everything Gadi Mizrahi does is drenched in emotion. However, it's never self indulgent or moody in any way. Instead, he manages to merge deep, infectious grooves with raw human emotion to create music that people can both take in on a personal level and get lost in whilst on the dancefloor. It's a hard craft to master, but one that Mizrahi does better than most. "Can't Stop This Feeling" and "Who's Gonna Love Me Tonight" are two perfect examples. His first release on Will Saul's Simple imprint, the two original efforts also come with remixes of the title track from Lee Curtiss and Sideshow.
"Can't Stop This Feeling" begins in a stripped back and percussive house mood. The echoed vocal is a cry back to the original days of house music, which when added to the funky drums of the opening section gives the track a classic shine. Then Mizrahi delivers the killer blow, adding a deep, unspeakably funky electro bassline. Now a sensual, groove-laden glider, the vintage vocals wash over Mizrahi's sumptuous tones, radiating a warm and easy emotive vibe through to its finish.
Close friend and fellow Wolf + Lamb accomplice Lee Curtiss is on hand for the first of two remixes, stripping the original and putting the beat in the driving seat for this Detroit influenced rider.
The second remix comes from Simple / Aus regulars, Sideshow. Taking things even deeper, even more stripped down, the duo deliver a wonderfully quirky take. Jazzy keys join a host of effects in their dubby, dark interpretation of Mizrahi's offering.
If we weren't already spoilt enough, Simple casually slip in another original Mizrahi production right at the end. "Who's Gonna Love Me Tonight" flies straight out of the block with trembling percussion and a distinct Detroit beat. With glowing piano chords, infectious bass and a strong, gospel-style female vocal, the track steps straight into old school territory. Full of energy and with a heartfelt sensibility, this is Mizrahi doing his thing as only he can.
Slotting perfectly onto Simple, this EP comes with all the colour, emotion and groove that Gadi Mizrahi seems to sweep along with him wherever he goes. And just like his previous work, it doesn't just leave you in reflective thought either - it gets you up and moving too!
