So Leeds club and record label Back 2 Basics release Buckley and Woodall's Happy Monday's level "play on words" Kitch n' Sync.
Buckley and Woodall are the club's residents, so it's only fair they get a crack of the production whip on the house, so one would hope that their tracks live up to the hype the press release conjured.
Meh. The original mix builds from a choppy electro influenced rhythm section, with some reverse acid twist. For the first three minutes of the track nothing really happens. The break after this has quite rightfully rarely reared it's bland since Mox Codeta bored himself out of the limelight.
6 minutes in begs forgiveness with a modicum of relevance as a more stripped down groove survives the cut and paste trot that precedes it. Not great and 3 minutes longer than it should be.
The Half Inch Jack Rewire sees Chris Duckenfield scrape together what he can to redeem the EP. He makes the dulcet acid lines that lingered in the original and give them more zest. Bringing the acid parts to the fore make the track available for DJs who have already smashed the dancefloor and need some time to think about what to do next.
Jamie Jones this time brings out the disco elements from the original which only on hindsight I noticed were there. He provides a signature chunky bassline, and the vocal sample choice compliments the basic nature of the overall delivery of the track. Not his best or worst, but saves the EP from the cupboard.
