Anané - Ananésworld
On April 20, Nervous Records will release the sophomore album from Anané entitled Ananésworld. A fitting title as it’s composed of music ranging in styles from dance, reggae, rock, R&B soul, world and the Caribbean; and because there’s a level of honesty that connects Anané with every note that’s performed on the album. Dance albums often come across as “tracks,” but what we have with Ananésworld is something more…It’s a rich album that throws back to a meaningful time and place.

Produced by Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega and co-produced by Anané, it won’t take very long to get fully immersed in Ananésworld. The opening track is a sparkling bass-heavy cover of Yoko Ono’s “Walking On Thin Ice” that brings some serious chic disco flavor. “Plastic People” offers a dance rock hybrid with tropical island flair while “Rock The Cradle” delivers a poignant message through whispers of reggae (both tracks co-written by Anané and Lisa Fischer). Straight out of a vintage movie soundtrack the smoky and sexy “Terra Longe” and “Bem Ma Mi” are pure class from the French Riviera. Next, an interlude provides a clear transition between the two sides of Ananésworld. “Bigger Than Life,” “My Sexy Way” (co-written by Anané and Duane Harden) and “A New Born Day” reflect a love of classic R&B; “Let Me Love You” and “Let's Get High (Life Love Music)” reveals Anané’s dancier side; and Dancehall King Mr. Vegas and MC Tony Touch help tear it up on “Shake It” (co-written by Anané and Duane Harden). A thick slice of 80’s NYC punk on ”Standing In Line” leads to a massive surprise that’s “Love To Love You Baby.” While there’s no doubt you’re familiar with Donna Summer’s original, we’re positive you’ve never heard it quite like this. That’s because Anané teamed up with iconic Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli for a stunning rendition of the classic.

On both a personal and professional level, Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega is a very important person in Anané’s life. Not only is Louie Vega this album’s producer and a great teacher/mentor, but he’s also Anané’s husband. Working together they recruited a talented team of collaborators including songwriter Duane Harden (Groove Doctors and Bob Sinclar writer); Lem Springsteen (Mood II Swing); and 1992 Best Female R&B Vocal Performance Grammy award winner Lisa Fischer, who not only sang and arranged background vocals but also played an integral part in writing the tracks "Plastic People" and "Rock The Cradle."

In addition to singing and producing music, Anané is an accomplished DJ. Setting Anané apart from other DJs is that, being a singer too, she will often get up on the console or stage and sing a few songs in the middle of her DJ sets. Thus far, her mixing talents have lead to gigs at Pacha NY, Roots @ Cielo and a monthly residency at The SubMercer; while internationally she’s graced the decks at Roberto Cavalli’s Cavalli Café/Club (Florence, Italy), Ministry of Sound (London), Cavo Paradiso (Mykonos) and Chocolate Club (Morocco), among others. Beyond all things music, Anané is a philanthropist and has a strong determination to help underprivileged kids. In 2007 she started The Anané Vega Scholarship Fund and is involved with Next Aid and Children Mending Hearts; all organizations that help children.

King Britt - Intricate Beauty
We’ll cut to the chase. Intricate Beauty is the final “conventional” dance album King Britt will ever make. And how fitting this final chapter also marks King’s first ever release on seminal house music label Nervous Records. This is the seal of quality.  Don’t worry, though, King Britt’s not going anywhere as an artist. He’ll be concentrating on more experimental based music and searching for new avenues to help push the live electronic improvisational end of performance. But for now, you have a real treat to behold with the Intricate Beauty. Eleven tracks of soulful rhythms constructed and mixed together like a grand jigsaw puzzle. Quintessential King.

Intricate Beauty pulls together the different sounds that have helped shape King’s dance DJ mind over the years. This is the story of what he loves to spin and how it all relates. In a sense, this is all the greatness of King Britt wrapped up under one disc. Like a physical incarnation of the intricate mind, the process of how this album was constructed is quite advanced. King based the album on tiny microsounds he procured from various random recordings and CDs. He then took all these tiny pieces and dumped them into Ableton Live where he sewed the puzzle pieces together. Once there were approximately 50 workable combinations of tracks he then constructed the songs musically. “In a few months I intend to release all the bits and pieces from Intricate Beauty as a “Live Pack.”  These will be sounds that people can use for inspiration and production,” King says

Beyond the album, this is a period of great change for King Britt. Not only is he working in a new studio but he’s also cleansed spiritually; something that has also enabled him to enter into a new creative space with his newest venture Saturn Never Sleeps with multimedia artist Rucyl (www.saturnneversleeps.com/about) “When you find your path and stick with it, you’re bound to hit a pentacle period of productivity.  I feel that in the next three years you’ll really see and hear many sides of me musically.  Mentally, physically and spiritually I have grown multitudes and have a very clear understanding of who I am and what I’m here for. Many of the lyrics on the album express some of these ideas.”

It’s been 20 years on the music scene for King Britt and his projects, collaborations and affiliations are always truly mind-blowing. From his time as Silkworm in the groundbreaking, Grammy winning Digable Planets, to starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, producing platinum remixes for Macy Gray, Solange, Donna Lewis and hundreds of others, winning the highest grant in the country as the first dj/producer, The Pew Fellowship or starting his empire, FiveSixMedia, King Britt still tries to live in the NOW and not the then.

Chus + Ceballos - Back On Tracks
Let’s face it, with few exceptions the weather totally sucks right now. So how’s about we offer you a sizzling new mix to get you thinking of the warmer times ahead?! Like a mirage on a foot high snow bank, Chus + Ceballos’ first ever mix compilation from house music authority Nervous Records - Back On Tracks - is a delicious slice of hypnotizing, warm, inviting tribal soundscapes laced with a brilliant use of modern tech elements.

Chus & Ceballos are known throughout the club world as one of the most exciting, dazzling DJ/production duos. With their excellent production works, their coveted remixes, and their marathon DJ sets, they capture the genuine Iberican sound; a perfect marriage of House and Techno whose common factor is the unmistakable beat of the percussion. This sound was originally crafted as an alternative to the dark and brooding prog style that was threatening to rule the scene. Chus & Ceballos vision was, and continues to be a much welcomed breath of fresh air.

The Iberican sound is spread finely throughout the two discs comprising Back On Tracks. Disc one isn’t about building or wasting anytime getting into it. The classic sound of The Heller & Farley Project featuring Cevin Fisher “We Built This House (Fire Island Mix)” greets all who enter the C+C kingdom of house music. Things throb along until the midpoint when techno shades start coloring the sonic frame with tracks including Paul Harris & Alex Tepper “Terris (Original Mix)”, the percussion heavy DJ Wady “Uganda (Robbie Taylor Afrobeat Dub)” and a tribal remix of Steve Lawler’s “Koma Koma” from Radio Slave. The sweaty, rainforest inspired tribal sounds finish out the first disc with tracks from Danny Tenaglia and a pair from Chus & Ceballos

The second disc was composed with just half the number of tracks as the first but it showcases Chus + Ceballos’ ability to ride out the music hard and for a long time. This is your proper peak time foray into the Iberican sound and a disc that would be a perfect accompaniment to Rio’s Carnival. A heavy disco influence coats the thumping bass of DJ Chus presents The Groove Foundation “That Feeling (DJ Chus 2010 Revisited Mix)” while it all shifts a bit tribal techno with Mikel Curcio & JamLimmat “Cha Cha Cha (DJ Chus Muchodrums Mix).” The balance of the disc takes on a more vocal house direction with tracks from Made By Monkeys, Richie Santana & Rob Mirage and Murk’s Oscar G. before Deka & Dave Rose kill it with the aptly titled “Lose Control (DJ Chus Iberican Remix)”

Back On Tracks offers an up front look into a current Chus & Ceballos DJ set.  No BS or gimmicks – just amazing house and techno for the clubs…and now just for you, too.

Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan
After highly successful releases from Frankie Knuckles, Danny Krivit and Mind Control, Nervous Records is now ready to unleash the newest mix CD from one of the most popular DJ/producers of the last decade, Tom Stephan. Some know this dance floor superhero only by his alias Superchumbo, but really, that’s only one side of this multi talented New York born / London based artist. Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan offers a window into his current DJ set but also a look into Stephan’s production and remix cache. It’s pretty damn impressive and this release features all sorts of crazy remixes and tracks from names like Diplo, Major Lazer and Larry Tee. Combine this with Stephan’s own original productions and new single “Light’s Out ft. Rowetta” and you’ve got one hell of a mix CD that’s completely unique.

Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan picks up right in the middle of an extremely productive time for Stephan. His latest originals – “Turn That Shit Up” (for Southern Fried) and “Lights Out ft. Rowetta” (with Pete Gleadall for Nervous) – both appear on Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan and reflect his newest inspirations: the electro sound of the UK and the new Dutch sound. This inspiration comes to the forefront of the compilation with the rave-y electro stabs-meets-twisted house of Nervous Disco Dolly's – “Get Up Everybody (Starkillers Mix)” and the minimal squelches of Seductive – “Underground Sound.” North and South unite when Miami’s great Robbie Rivera and NYC’s big room electro machine Rooster & Peralta throw down on “Move Move (DJ Observer & Daniel Heathcliff Mix)” This frantic wave is then met with a trough as the punishing beats of Benny Royal – “Back to Basic,” Afrojack – “Polkadots,” Christian Arango – “Body Shake” and SpiritMindster – “Furious Night (DJ Dextro Mix)” take over the center point of the mix.

The final third of the mix is full of great surprises and the action picks up big time with Tom Stephan’s own dizzying remix of Major Lazer – “Keep It Going Louder (Tom Stephan Harder Mix).” This one sounds like a ride on the Gravitron. Williamsburg favorite Larry Tee keeps it going with the assistance of Roxy Cottontail on Afrojack’s drum-atic remix of “Let’s Make Nasty” while Mikix The Cat Mix takes it all back to the days of acid house with his whistle blowing remix of Rico Tubbs – “Born to Bounce.” The boobs start bouncing thanks to bonus beats courtesy of Diplo on his remixes of Bingo Players – “Get Up” and Tom Stephan’s “Turn That Shit Up” before Oscar G closes it out vocal house style with Tom Stephan’s reworking of his “What You Need feat Tamara Wallace.”

Influenced by the legendary NYC club Sound Factory, Tom Stephan became the new “it” producer seemingly overnight thanks to his 2001 smash “The Revolution.” Bolstered by support from Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish and Pete Tong (who named it the “Track of the Year”), “The Revolution” kick-started both Tom’s production and DJ career. By 2002, he had already collected enough stellar material for a best-of compilation and the resulting Get The Lead Out: The Best of Superchumbo also provided a roadmap of what he had dubbed the “lead-head” sound. Tom’s debut artist album “Wowie Zowie” (Twisted 2005) sounded like the soundtrack to a haunted nightclub circus and It featured collaborations with sex kitten Samantha Fox, Miami club personality Alan T and bore big-room hits like “Irresistible,” “This Beat Is,” and “Dirtyfilthy.” In 2007, Stephan released the mix compilation Let’s Go Chumbo! And followed it up with a flare for the theatrical on “Asseteria: Live From New York,” a compilation inspired by the Sunday night/Monday morning party of the same name, featuring a full cast of costumed go-go girls and gender-benders.

Next up for Tom Stephan is a slew of remixes for high-profile, of-the-moment releases – Major Lazer’s “Keep It Going Louder” (included on Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan), the renowned track “Great DJ” by the Ting Tings, Shakira’s new track “Did It Again” and Gossip’s “Heavy Cross” – show him manipulating staccato pop and Beth Ditto’s Joplin-esque wale into perfectly jerky, funky bites that keep the unique vibes of the originals while adding his own.

Revved, revitalized, ready for the future: Tom Stephan is starting the drumbeat all over again. It’s time for another revolution: Are you ready?
