Dance Valley Festival, 16th Edition - 07/07/10 - Velsen Valley Spaarnwoude, NLWhile all the big dedicated dance music festivals in the UK seem to have made the move to weekend-long status, over in the Netherlands they still keep it old-school. That is, just one day, all your eggs in one basket, balls to the wall from the moment the gates open, either go hard or go home...

And, when it comes to throwing a high-profile, high-production, high-octane dance music über-soiree, Dance Valley pretty much has all the competitors licked. This year will be the event's 16th year running, and will feature no less than a staggering 23 different stages, with over 200 acts performing throughout the day. You have to hand it to the Dutch - as their recent World Cup final performance will attest to - when they go in, they go in meaning business...

Attempting to list all the acts playing would take more space than I have got for this preview, so a brief rundown of some of the major players will have to suffice. Bear in mind, though, that what follows is but a bitesize morsel of the full list, so if you like the look of what you see here, the line-up in its entirety will possibly send you into a state of catatonic disbelief.

Ok, on the main stage we have, among others, Mark Knight, Booka Shade, Tocadisco and Hernan Cattaneo. Over at A State Of Trance there will be all the usual players - Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery and Rank 1. Then, at Intec Digital, Carl Cox, Cristian Varela, Umek, Christian Smith and Jim Rivers will all be stepping up.

Electronation sees sets from Claude VonStroke, Stephan Bodzin, Jesse Rose and Riva Starr, plus live shows from dOP and Fischerspooner. Sander Kleinenberg's This Is... franchise makes an appearance, with the main man being supported by Gui Boratto, Sultan and Kraak & Smaak. Things get hard over at HQ with Technoboy, Proteus, Thera and Andy Whitby, and then harder still over at Dutch Master Works, with Showtek, Zany, Dutch Master and Southstylers. Techno fans are well catered for at Smaakstof, as Gregor Tresher, Reboot, Robert Dietz and the entire Voltt/100% Pure gang will all be spinning some tunes, while basslines are not neglected either, as Dum Dum Trailer Cash welcomes The Subs, Jack Beats, Foamo and High Rankin - and that's only highlights from nine of the stages. There are 14 bloody more!

As mentioned earlier, Dance Valley is quite simply one of the biggest one-day parties of this type you are ever likely to attend. The line-up is mind-boggling, the production values are jaw-dropping, and the comedown will likely be world-ending. But, then again, we wouldn't have it any other way, would we?
