Released on Ripperton's Perspectiv imprint, St Plomb's 'Precious Soul' EP is typical Perspective fare. Think melodic, funky, deep house and you've pretty much summed it up. Which isn't to say it's bad, generic stuff. On the contrary, Ripperton's label keep up their recent run of good form here with yet another stunning release.
The title track is first up. Showcasing the Swiss native's ear for a melodic, funky baseline, its deep vibe is perfectly suited to the warm up set. Like Sebo K's version of Ripperton's '1976' however, the original producer has simply laid out the foundations for the EP's standalone moment.
This moment duly arrives courtesy of Stuttgart producer Jackmate, who delivers two exceptional remixes. His first interpretation of the track - the 'NDS Boogie' mix - does exactly as it says on the tin, with a funk fueled vibe which practically begs you to get on down. With a slick vocal line and a twisted bass heavy tone, this track will, mark my words, captivate even the most skeptical dance floor. Like Kenny Dixon Jr.s Moodyman alias, Jackmate has walked the tightrope between techno and funk with aplomb here.
As if that isn't enough, the German then calls on his Soulphiction moniker to deliver another fine effort. Deeper again, the 'Kinadbub' version features a sultry vocal line and a handful of shrewdly placed claps. This trippy, more morning time suited affair is the ying to the NDS boogie's yang, and wraps up the package in esteemed fashion.
A thoroughly enjoyable EP and a seriously worthy addition to any record box or hard drive.
