The latest release from Blaq co-owner Soundspace trims down the track listing and remix roster and instead opts for a very compact three-track release. The bonus here being that one of these three tracks is a highly combustible Jay Haze remix of the original. However, the best of the three cuts here is found on the b-side original composition "We Are All Gods", a low-key late nighter that has all the right moves.

"What I Like About You" starts out with some decent Erick Morillo-style tribal beats with some unobtrusive vocal bits to achieve depth. Soon the deep house synth pads kick in and for many tracks this is the kiss of death but Soundspace (AKA Ivan Lopez) at least makes the melodies engaging and the breakdown as painless as possible. The percussive Latin groove and the wistful melodies actually make for a good combination that doesn't overplay any of the clichés, indicative of a steady production hand. The original version isn't an anthem but rather a subtle third hour track for a fully engaged dance floor.

One of the bigger names on the American techno scene is Jay Haze and his reworking of the original is aimed squarely at the dance floor. His remix seems to lack any sophisticated musical progressions but as a driving, melodic tool it seems to do the trick and instantly ignites dance floors. The bass line is a very brutish two chord gut punch to the rest of the track giving it the hypnotic quality needed to carry the weight of the thundering beats and overwrought melodies.

"We Are All Gods" is the kind of psychedelic, Marshall Jefferson type bonus beats cut that makes DJs drool. The straightforward house beat and elegant mid range synths keep things simple. The spoken word and undulating melodies are what make this remix feel just a little bit loco but done with the kind of restraint to keep it deep and musical. In the era of tracks with one-day shelf lives, this remix is a half-day masterpiece.
