Berliner by way of Venezuela, Argenis Brito always seems to be popping up with a variety of catchy tracks all with musical hooks and strong beats. His latest three track offering for the new Dame-Music imprint is a fun dance floor filler with not much under the hood but a good, driving beat and some cheesy accents sprinkled in to add flair without sacrificing any of the release's overall effectiveness.
"Heartbreaker" is the alpha male of the collection with chugging Latin beats and moody synth stabs taking charge right away. The track crescendos, adding more dynamics and snippets of Edwin Starr's vocal from the Motown classic "War", it's a nice touch that adds some tension to what is otherwise a rather dry track. But the move is also an obvious one taking away some of the track's power, transforming it in to more of a radio friendly single that is a tad on the lightweight side.
"Simulator" is rattling minimal tool with some interesting sounds and a decent range. The beats are chunky and the production lively with crisp handclaps and a mix of cow and a few other types of bells. This one doesn't offer much outside the context of a DJ mix but the intricate layers of percussion should more than make up for any lacking on a big sound system with such a punchy kick drum featured out front in the mix.
"Ain't Rocket Science" is a lazy groover with some subtle deep house characteristics buried inside a late night tech house package. Off kilter melodies colliding with suppressed Hoovers give this track an unbalanced, almost spooky feel with just the faintest hint of old school. Add to that tons of reverb and delay plus a smidge of flanging and Brito's knack for creating effortless crowd movers comes shining through on this one.
