Little known Spanish imprint Neovinyl release only their 9th EP here, entitled 'Drama' by V.Rotz. Drama by name and dramatic by nature, the EP features four impressively constructed tracks, each one with its own charms. The Seville native kicks off matters with 'Don't Lose It', a deep, tech house track with vocals that warble throughout. The original features warm pads and intricate drum patterns which add emphasis to the echoed breakdown that sets the wheels in motion for a percussive, synth revolving crescendo.
Cologne native Rene Breitbarth is a man whose been making an impressive name for himself as a Dj at Berlin summer hangout Club der Visionaire. He takes on the task of conducting a remix of 'Don't Lose It' and it''s immediately apparent he's as adept at producing as he is at Dj'ing. Breitbarth's mix is deep yet heavy, with a humid summer vibe brought on by acid squelches which permeate from beginning to end. A lovely effort and a welcome throwback to the 808 defining, old school generation. Think Josh Wink with deeper undertones.
V.Rotz goes solo again next via 'Bodylove', the producer's attempt at conveying a more melodic, albeit trippy vibe. The standout track of the package, its eerie strings, repetitive piano keys and childish vocal add real menace.
Rotz's fellow Spaniard duo Oren Bi then wraps up the package with a mix of 'Bodylove' that despite deviating little from the original, does include a new vocal line as well as more melody and an enhanced baseline. An altogether interesting package that's sure to appease deep house fans at a time of the year when big room techno tends to rule the dance floors. Intriguing stuff from a guy we'll doubtless here more of soon.
