Best Art Vinyl 2010: vote for the album artwork of the yearNirvana: Nevermind, The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper - what would an album be without its iconic artwork? Each year, exhibitors (and inventors of the world's first 'Flip Frame') Art Vinyl recognise 'the most beautiful record covers' with their prestigious award of 'Best Art Vinyl'.

The awards are now in their sixth year, and this month Art Vinyl invite you to help crown 2010's honourable winner, chosen from a shortlist of 50 sleeve designs.

Back in 2005 managing director Andrew Heeps founded Art Vinyl as a way to celebrate the most innovative sleeve designs and to "honour some of those unsung heroes of art and design who provide the visual identity for so many bands and artists", says Heeps. Previous winners of the award have included Hard-Fi's 'Stars of CCTV', Thom Yorke's 'The Eraser', Fleet Foxes self-titled debut album, and most recently (in 2009), Muse's 'The Resistance' with its psychedelic sleeve design.

For 2010, Heeps will be joined by four highly respected music industry design experts to form the panel of judges. Amongst them; Scott Bendall, creative director of boutique design agency La Boca (and the man responsible for Muse's award-grabbing artwork).

Also present will be Matthew Cooper, Domino Records designer, who has EPs from Artic Monkeys, Four Tet and Wild Beasts under his belt (to name a few). Completing the lineup of guest judges will be Gerard Saint, creative director of the Big Active design team (he's designed for Mark Ronson, Foals, Goldfrapp and Basement Jaxx) and finally, Darren Wall, the founder of creative agency Wallzo who's closely linked to Hot Chip.

In addition to the awards themselves, all of the albums shortlisted will be exhibited in six galleries across the UK and Europe throughout November, December and January 2011, with each of the entries naturally showcased in Art Vinyl's slick Flip Frame.

Time for the nitty gritty - you can cast your vote as of now, either in person at one of the galleries in London, Edinburgh, Folkestone, Brussels, Paris or Gothenburg, or online at

The winners of the award will be announced on 3rd January, before going on to be further displayed at the participating galleries.
