Day One Festival Madrid - New Year Day 2011People often say you should ‘start as you mean to go on', and in general that's a pretty great way to approach life. After all, there's no point in starting out on a career as a candy-floss salesman if you someday hope to be an architect, is there? Unless, of course, you want to build the world's most delicious house. For the residents of Madrid, however, such a statement might be setting a pretty ambitious precedent, given that their start to the year involves 15,000 people raving for countless hours to over 25 of the biggest names in techno music...

That's right, Madrid's Day One music festival is probably as good a way to start the New Year as you are ever going to get. Taking place in the mighty Palacio De Vistalegre indoor arena and kicking off at midday, a star-studded line-up of the world's best DJs will be coming together across four arenas to help get 2011 started in a way you're sure to remember for many months to come. If you ever needed an excuse to keep that New Year's Eve party going a little bit longer, then this is most definitely it.

In the Center Arena, fresh from the recent release of his Plastikman Arkives box set, M_nus boss Richie Hawtin will be headlining proceedings with his signature brand of mind-warping 4/4 music, along with a very special back-to-back performance from Loco Dice and Marco Carola - surely something not to be missed. Also appearing will be Cadenza's vagabundo-in-chief Luciano and labelmate Reboot, as well as Henry Saiz and Marc Marzenit, who will again be performing back-to-back. A list of artists as impressive as that should be enough to get anyone out of bed and into their party pants, regardless of their hangover. But wait, there's more...

OPalacio de Vistalegrever in The Box Arena, Madrid's own golden boy Oscar Mulero heads up the bill, which also sees the lovably grumpy and relentlessly-banging Dave Clarke drop in to tear things up alongside Technasia, who will be performing his renowned live show. Also on a live tip will be the Gallic wonder Paul Ritch and local artist Reeko.

Then, as if all that weren't enough, the Up Arena will be bringing performances from two other artists on the M_nus roster, Troy Pierce and Gaiser. Alongside them, Matthew Dear will be taking a break from his recent ‘Black City' live tour to step up to the decks for a more conventional DJ offering, while Spanish all-star Paco Osuna, Cadenza's newest signing Ernesto Ferreyra and CR2 man-of-the-moment Uner will also all be performing throughout the day.

With a line-up like that it's safe to say that the clubbers of Madrid will be welcoming in 2011 in pretty spectacular fashion. What's more, the organisers have confirmed Day One as an open-ended party, so when they say ‘start as you mean to go on', they mean on and on and on and on...

Who knows, it could even be going until next year! One thing's for certain, you do not want to miss a party like this.
It's going to be a whole 364 days until the next one.
