While it was Laura Jones' Visionquest anthem, 'Live a Little' that elevated her career to new heights, it was 'Love in Me' - her inaugural contribution to Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom imprint - that first set the wheels in motion. On LEFT 028, it's the latter that's granted a fresh lick of paint, as some of 2011's most emerging, and latterly, prominent figures jump aboard the remix ship. Although the results are somewhat typical of what we've come to expect from each contributor, the package as a whole is still a worthy compliment to the original's charms.

In fact, even if you were oblivious as to who was responsible for each effort, an educated guess would amount to a fairly certain answer. So although Maceo Plex treads relatively familiar water, his remix is, as you'd expect, still an intriguing one, Mr. Estornell making shrewd use of the original's melody line courtesy of a ubiquitous, swelling guitar lick.

Detroit native Kate Simko then adds her own sparkle via a deeper, more percussion led reworking, before Eats Everything twists the original on its head entirely. The Bristol native crafts the pick of the remixes here, with his penchant for bass-heavy offerings once again apparent. This time around, he adds a simmering, snare-fuelled underbelly, a smattering of kick-drums and a vintage bassline: in the process unearthing an off-kilter record that's undoubtedly destined for the dancefloor.

The Love in Me Remixes play out like a brief snapshot of three producers who’ve enjoyed a career-defining, exemplary past twelve months, and in that regard at least, it certainly earns its crust. A safe bet and a decent package it may be, but if it's surprises you're after at this time of year, you'd perhaps be better served looking under the Christmas tree.
