Last year it was Stacey Pullen, this time around its former Underground Resistance man Rolando. But the vibe is much the same; with the two heavyweight producers delivering quality techno in the shape of a pure dancefloor bomb.
The now Edinburgh based Rolando chose Saved, a label on which he first appeared back in 2009, to release his first collaborative project since leaving the famed US collective almost seven years ago. Teaming up with Fanciulli, just weeks after the Saved boss won critical acclaimed for his remix of Subb-an on the imprint, the pair do more than match up to their lofty reputations and unleash a tight and highly energised slice of contemporary techno.
Clicking percussion quickly fires into pounding kick drums as the powerful bass surges forward in the bottom end. The driving beat adds a relentless momentum as the energy begins to build and build in intensity. With intelligently placed synth flashes ‘The Test’ shifts its gears only very subtly, pushing the tension towards tipping point but never letting it spill over into frenzy.
A perfect mix of old school and futuristic techno, ‘The Test’ is the consummate example of two highly experienced producers reflecting their varied influences of underground techno with a forward thinking, fresh sound of today.
