Trainspotters amongst you may well recognise Lucky Paul's 'Elephant Island' from last year's Greg Paulus remix, one that – with the benefit of hindsight – perhaps shouldn't have surfaced when it did. This isn't to suggest there's much wrong with Paulus' interpretation; it's just that when a remix is released before the original, it tends to hint at an inferior primary version.

In this instance however, nothing could be further from the truth, as 'Elephant Island's original qualities shine brightest in spite of some shrewdly assembled contributors.

Almost from the off it becomes obvious why No Regular Play's Paulus was so enamoured by the original. Yet while his remix was slightly too elongated and drawn out, the original makes for a wonderfully eccentric effort that at less than 4 minutes long, feels far more like a song than a 'track'.

Mara TK's vocals are at the epicentre of all the versions too (and with good reason), making 'Elephant Island' the sort of crossover sounding gem that could just as likely end up on a car ad as the dance floor.

As an added bonus, the package comes armed with a shrewdly selected group of remixers on board, although before all this, the 'Piano Dub' brings matters down a more sinister path, with Mara TK's wailing vocal granted added breathing space amongst a horde of clever keys.

On the remix front, Ossie's edit leans towards a UK funky palette: with a cheeky, percussion-happy sound that - while alluring to some - isn't a particularly willing accomplice to the original's strengths.

Midland's remix is an expected beast though, as his flair for weaving harmonious, fluid melodies with bass heavy capabilities is again satisfied. Invoking a warm sound whilst maintaining the original's atmosphere is no easy task, yet it's one Midland makes with ease as his remix gradually unfurls towards a more manic conclusion. This should be huge.
