Crosstown Rebels Pres. Rebellion RaveAs his lead label Crosstown Rebels approaches its 100th release, musical maverick Damian Lazarus turns the spotlight to his lesser-known imprint, Rebellion. Since 2010 the sub-imprint has farmed out a less consciously cool and more purposefully challenging brand of house music than its older and more celebrated sister, with artists like James What and Lazarus himself (as Zod) Tim Xavier and Solomun all contributing. Just ten releases in, the label is already synonymous with a raw, dark warehouse vibe… perfect for a party such as this, then.

And it’s that musical mantra, paired with the aims of the Rebel Rave series that has taken place at Sonar, in Berlin, LA and beyond, which makes up this first Rebellion Rave party to take place at some unannounced London warehouse on Saturday October 6th. From 10pm – 6am you will be able to indulge in sets from a range of talents starting with Lazarus himself.

Known for his exceptional A&R skills, deep crate digging Lazpod series and equally beguiling and unpredictable sets, the boss will head up the party along with, firstly, Acid Pauli. Pauli has been making music for years but only recently shot to stardom following the release of his MST album on Nicholas Jaar’s Clown & Sunset. Like Jaar’s aesthetic, Pauli’s is stripped bare, couched in hip and trip hop and places much emphasis on bare rhythms, intricate found sounds and late night love. Expect much of the same when he takes to the booth on October 6th.

Also spinning will be Berlin based DJ, producer and expert master engineer at Manmade Mastering, Tim Xavier. His sound over the last decade has primarily been a sleek and steely one somewhere between afterparty tech house and sterner techno, whilst James What also gets in on the action. What has produced a blend of classic sounding house and dark, gruff minimal for Crosstown Rebels, Poker Flat, Dessous and Treibstoff, as well as touring the globe as one half of a live duo alongside Dan Berkson.

Finally and maybe most interestingly, James Lavelle’s brother Aidan completes the line-up. Over the last decade or so, Aiden has worked as a composer, sound designer and producer for a number of commercial outlets and films as well as remixing the likes of UNKLE, Kirk Degorigio, Gorrillaz and more. He’s won awards for his compositions and has had music used on popular UK TV shows like Top Gear and Hells Kitchen, so a chance to see what he has to offer in the DJ booth should not be sniffed at.
