If there’s one word that’s been plastered upon flyer after flyer, it’s Ableton, so it’s no surprise that when it comes to learning to DJ and Produce Music, it’s this piece of software that’s in high demand.
Sub Bass, an East-London music academy, has picked up on this buzz; creating two brand new courses in Ableton, and a third in Logic – all of which are to be tutored by two talented, professional producers; Glimpse and Blind Minded.
Glimpse (Planet E, Crosstown Rebels) will teach the new two-week evening course ‘Ableton Advanced Techniques’, where students already familiar with the software will learn how to push their productions to the next level using drums, bass and melody, plus spend time on arrangement, effects, and the concept of using ‘field recordings’ – sounds captured from everyday life.
Glimpse himself uses these to stamp his productions with a totally unique style; his work is peppered with all kinds of snippets that have been captured everywhere from zoos to randomly, coffee machines.
Blind Minded (Lo*Kee, Moon Harbour) is the instructor who’ll be leading the ‘Advanced Electronic Production Weekend with Logic’. Just like its extensive name, this new course offers the opportunity to absorb a vast amount of skills that are ultimately designed, just like all Sub Bass courses, to help you progress with a professional music career.
Blind Minded also heads up the new ‘Making Electronic Music with Ableton’ course - an evening class that runs for four weeks - which offers beginners a fully-comprehensive introduction to creating professional-sounding debut productions. Blind Minded, with a proven track record for success - numerous EPs and releases on respected labels such as Monique Musique and Moon Harbour Recordings - makes for the perfect person to learn from, as does Sub Bass’ four-per-class policy which means that students are guaranteed plenty of individual attention from an industry expert.
Of all three new courses, Graeme Lloyd, Sub Bass’ Founder and Director says, “We have been waiting for the right time and the right producers to expand our range of music production courses. What makes Sub Bass stand out from other schools is that all of our instructors are currently working DJs and Producers so not only are students learning relevant techniques from people at the heart of the current dance music scene, they are also making the right connections to take the next steps with their music careers.”
