If it’s not hard enough at any other time of the year to choose where you want to party - with a plethora of warehouse outputs and just as much hype - there’s one night of year where it gets so much tougher. Yep, New Year’s Eve.
My top trick to making a decision is to stay local and avoid the jacked-up entry rates (to crap clubs) and an arse-over-barrel taxi fare to get home. Local for me is Brixton, and much to my smugness Defected, one of the most iconic UK record labels, plan on taking over the famous Electric (formerly The Fridge), with Dennis Ferrer and Deetron as headliners.
It’ll be Dennis’ first visit to the UK for six months. He’s been gigging in Toronto, Brussels and Moscow lately which has no doubt served him plenty of inspiration for his recent, and debut, Beatport Mix – a great port of call should you wish to listen to what might be delivered on New Year’s Eve.
Deetron, with his soul-spliced house, complements Dennis perfectly. He’s been remixing the likes of George Fitzgerald’s Every Inch of late and has just released a host of tour dates for 2013.
Defected in the House N.Y.E . makes for the perfect preview of what’s set to be another winning year for this long-established star.
Then there’s Danish DJ Noir, of the renowned Noir Music whom also adds to the line-up, alongside Defected founders Simon Dunmore, and Sam Divine who’ll be back in London after a season at Ushuaïa, Ibiza.
Copyright (a.k.a. Sam Holt and Gavin ‘Face’ Mills) are the last but far from least acts on the bill. Sam couldn’t be more pumped to play with Defected’s own Simon Dunmore: “It’s been a great year for Defected”, he says. “Ibiza was off-the-hook and the line-up for New Year’s Eve is very, very cool so we are really happy to be playing back to back with Simon to celebrate a vintage year for Defected.”
