It feels as if, finally, Antonio 'Tboy' Colantuoni is starting to garner the reputation he deserves. Having been plugging away meticulously behind the scenes for some years now, the Italian-cum-East London producer saw his career hit new heights off the back of his work with close DJ friends Sandeman & Dickie, better known today as two thirds of the WildKats. From there the rest of the nouveau-house world began to take notice, including a certain Mr. Miguel Campbell, for whom Tboy debuts on the Leeds producer's own Outcross Records.

There's an emotive, progressive thread that runs through the People Love U EP. The title track ushers the listener in on an introductory, half-time bed of tough kicks, paving the way for the now classic compound of dominant, gravelly bassline, metallic ripples and yearning female vox. The midway breakdown brings with it a thin gauze of morning light, adding a touch of the 7am to this otherwise boisterous number.

On 'No Cure' this emotive hue is accentuated further, merging a slice of dynamic bassline funk with droplets of airy lead synth to produce the release's most assured effort.

Compared to the previous two cuts, 'Eye of the Tiger' doesn't quite jump off the page. While spacey, dancing synths help retain that, dare I say it, trancey feel, the sum of all its parts feels a little too tired to inspire any real dance-floor vigour.Possibly attracted by the track's hip-house appeal, label head Miguel Campbell turns out a tighter if still slightly unremarkable edit. 'Change' meanwhile recaptures that early spark, combining shimmering temptress vocals with an upright bassline and delicate quasi-epic glimmers. Tboy brings an interesting twist on what is rapidly becoming a well-worn formula in certain house music circles, but whether it will be enough to propel him to the forefront remains to be seen.
