Last month Sankeys - Ibiza's most forward-thinking club - laid down the gauntlet to smash a record of a very different kind as they aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Toga Party. Now they're adding musical fire to the mix, as phase one of the club's mammoth closing line-up is confirmed.
As a special feature of the club's closing, VIVa Warriors figurehead and now Sankeys Ibiza legend Steve Lawler will be playing twice throughout the 24 hour party; once in the basement that Lawler has made his own, before backing it up with a special terrace set in the late afternoon the next day. Joining him on the line-up is the unstoppable force that is Skream. The Londoner is responsible for one of the season's most mentalist parties at Sankeys when Bugged Out! co-hosted a Skreamizm session at the club in July and every time the man sets foot in the club the vibe has been switched to mayhem. Do not miss this.
One of the undisputed stars of the season and fellow Warrior, Darius Syrossian will be joining the party and like Lawler will be playing a pair of sets throughout the course of the event. Joining him with be Hector Couto, whose joint collaborations 'House is House' have been some of the standout cuts of the summer. Finnebassen is an essential addition to the line-up, with the Norwegian firebrand enjoying an outstanding first full summer in Ibiza. As an exclusive Sankeys resident, all his sets have been shoulder-to-shoulder with the young artist's stocks rising with each performance. A fact that didn't go unnoticed by BBC Radio 1 when they recently aired a Hot Mix from the exciting young DJ/producer last month.
It wouldn't be a Sankeys closing without DJ Sneak. The Chicagoan has been a pivotal artist in the club's history, recording an Essential Mix live at Carnival last year and completely owning the dancefloor whenever he has played in 2013. His set at Sankeys Ibiza closing party last year will go down as one of the special highlights and we expect this year to be no different. One of the standout residencies of Sankeys 2013 season has been Fuse's weekly shindigs each Wednesday, and repping the crew for a special b2b session will be Seb Zito and Rossko, while crew regular Julian Perez, whose commanding performance following Loco Dice in August remains one of the highlights of the season, will also be playing.
In keeping with the club's tradition of mixing up a collection of its finest residents and regulars throughout the summer season, with a carefully chosen selection of on-point artists across the house, techno and electronica spectrum, they are thrilled to welcome Âme (live) to the line-up. The Innervisions pair has become synonymous with everything sublime and quality-driven in the world of electronic music and will be making their Sankeys Ibiza debut on October 8.
Another debutant to the Playa D'en Bossa hotspot is Andrea Oliva. Nominated as the best newcomer in the Ibiza DJ Awards, Oliva has been one of the key artists behind Ushuaia's hugely successful Ants residency this season and brings his dark rolling techno grooves to the Sankeys disco. Reboot is another blue ribbon artists joining the closing bash. An original resident at Sankeys Manchester, the German has enjoyed a strong summer hosting his own Rock N' Beats residency at Ushuaia Towers, while playing regularly at Ants. This Cadenza favourite will be bringing his intricately woven brand of house and techno to the party, making a fine accompaniment to the likes of Âme, Oliva and co.
No one knows how to bring the party like Miguel Campbell, and that's what makes him an essential addition to the Sankeys fiesta. The Outcross Records boss has turned the Basement into a virtual moshpit every time he's played this summer and next month's closing party will be no different.
The buzz name on the island on the back of his celebrated Essential Mix is Andy Baxter, with the long-time Ibiza favourite and Cafe Mambo, We Love and Pacha resident delivering a mix of pin-sharp quality. Much loved throughout the island, Sankeys is thrilled to see the Brit play his anticipated first set at the club. Rising German artist Marino Canal (whose remix of The Japanese Popstars 'Pump Power' was a golden moment in Baxter's recent Essential Mix) also joins the closing, plus Detlef a standout member of the VIVa Warriors clan, fail-safe Sankeys party boy BONES and our stateside rep Antonio Piacquadio, who'll be dropping a heavy-hitting set of house and techno as the perfect primer for Sankeys New York's opening later this year.
And that's not all. Stay tuned for the phase two line-up dropping shortly with the final 6 artists to be announced.
