In the turmoil season 2013 tINI & the Gang was our party of choice: the cool and down-to-earth beach event occurred every Wednesday at Sirocco from 5pm till 12am. We loved it because of the free entrance, moderate prices in the bar, laid-back attitude and the line-ups that should be considered quite underground by the standards of modern Ibiza, where under- has gone resolutely over-.
On October 2 the time came to call it a day. For the closing party tINI booked her partner in crime Guti, keen underground minds Enzo Siragusa, Fernando Costantini, Bill Patrick, Bella Saris and Randall M as well as Guy Gerber, the special guest. On this very date Gerber was closing his own Wisdom of the Glove night at Pacha, thus providing a much-needed carry-on for Sirocco which had to go to sleep at midnight (as you might guess, for the exceptional case of closing the party went on for a little longer. Or not that little).
To be frank, the mental and creepy Gerber was not spot on for a beach event. His moody and glutinous set turned out to be an opinion splitter – probably he should have saved this music for a couple of hours later at Pacha. Bill Patrick, Randall M and Enter. resident Bella Saris’ choice of records was also maybe more suitable for Space at 4am rather than for a beach venue at 10pm, but this is a matter of taste. Anyway, the crowd that came here had already survived Music On, Enter. and Cocoon closings and was up for anything dark and a bit morose.
As for tINI, she sang her swan song of the season: her set was very organic and driving, with plenty of pianos – obviously, during the summer she had enough time to hone the skill of matching the seaside ambience. Later that night tINI performed at Fuse in Sankeys, but her early morning set, even though classy and confident, couldn’t bear comparison to her masterly effervescence at Sirocco – East or West, home is best.
The closing party became the meeting point for many committed season closers, and the atmosphere was sincerely friendly all the way. Sirocco is lucky to be situated at the further end of Playa d’en Bossa beach where rare an intruder can appear. Compact as it is, the venue offered totally diverse experience of dancing under its roof, where it was hot and sweaty, just as it should at a techno closing, and of chilling out by the sea, where you could sit on a bench or right on the sand, breathing the sea breeze and meditating to the sound of the repetitive beat.
If last summer tINI and the Gang might have performed with variable efficiency, this season the event matured enough to become a true blast. Hopefully it will go on next year and little will change about it – this party doesn’t need to grow any bigger, honestly.
