Seth Troxler - Mondo Disko 19.12.13 @ Sala Cocó, Madrid, Spain - Party Review
I love Seth Troxler. Also I love DJs who play for the dancefloor and not for the galaxies inside their head. Troxler’s knack for spirituality sometimes drives him too far away from the crowd desperately trying to dance in front of the decks – but what would be another DJ’s faux pas, is Seth’s zest.

We caught Visionquest boss spinning on December 19 in Coco, Madrid at Mondo Disko night. Mondo Disko, a staple of the city’s underground life, take place on Thursdays and Saturdays, spoiling their loyal fanbase with a choice of such artists as Art Department, Hot Since 82, Tale Of Us or Dixon. Coco with VIP rope barriers, bottle service and a hell of a stamper behind the DJ booth might look a bit too ostentatious for such events – but eventually it’s people who create the vibe. Especially those who man the decks and the mixer.

At the beginning of the set Troxler was outrageously undanceable. He refused to throw any semblance of steady groove and kept changing tempos, denying the very notion of mixing and joining tracks in quite an ill-concerted manner. It took him an hour or so to come back from outer space and start dropping proper dancefloor bombs, not overdoing with mixing nevertheless. Still every single tune he played, be it Yeke Yeke by Vlada Asanin and Yas Cepeda or Time, his own joined effort with Tom Trago and Subb-An, beamed with unparalleled drive.

The thing is that Troxler is much more than a DJ and musician. He is obsessed with so many ideas, visions and projects that we are interested in him as in a personality, a cultural figure and a mediator between deep high-brow thought and casual fun accessible for your average raver. When we come to listen to Seth we don’t just expect him to serve our dancing needs and provide a nice beat so that we could shuffle our legs – we are excited to see him in his mood of the moment and pick up his vibes.

So even though mister Troxler would have failed to pass a mixing techniques exam last Saturday, it was cool to see him again and recharge our emotional batteries.

Meanwhile, if you are still undecided about the NYE, mind that Mondo Disko have Michael Mayer on December 31, and on December 28 Ten Walls live.
