Kappa Futur Festival 2014There are so many festivals all over the world nowadays that you really need to be special to stand out from the pack. Torino’s Kappa Futur is certainly that. Its USP is the fact the techno heavy line-up calls on the most respected names around, at the same time as serving them up in a perfectly befitting environment.

That setting across 5th and 6th July was Parco Dora, and old industrial space that was raw and unfussy, with the main action taking place in an old disused airport hangar style area. A second stage also ran parallel for both days and both were equally pumping.

The first day was dominated by a number of big sets, meaning that the roughly 18, 000 people in attendance were all raring to go right form the off.

It was local hero Marco Carola who was on when we arrived, fresh from one of his many Ibiza residency dates at Music On. His rolling, stripped back techno sounds went down perfectly with the fresh looking crowd and after him came electro big hitter Maceo Plex.

Plex’s sounds were slightly slicker than Carola’s, with big attention grabbing basslines and the odd catchy vocal thrown into the mix to keep people locked as the afternoon rolled on.

The crowd was a cosmopolitan bunch from all over Europe, with Italians naturally making up the most of the crowd. People of all ages were here though from young and fresh eyed to older and wiser, but all seemed to gel and bond thanks to the unifying music that always brought people together.

One of the new additions for this year’s event was the Dora stage that feature special sets from US legends like Detroit bad boy Omar S. He dropped acid next to 80s gems, deep house next to plenty of his own unique creations and surely stole the headlines on the first day as a result.

Day Two was another mammoth and marathon selection of artists across all stages, be it Red Bull, Pink Holy Days and many others. For fans of pumping main room techno, Adam Beyer was the man to see, but for us it was the diverse beats and quick mixing of the one and only Jackmaster. He dropped some serious curveballs amongst more traditional current club hits and it seemed to go down a storm.
