Behind every DJ/producer who steps into the spotlight, there’s usually an artist agency behind them; toiling away behind the scenes to help bring their musical talent to the world. Berlin’s Sweat Lodge is one such agency, swiftly approaching its 10th anniversary and again on this May Day weekend, it will itself be stepping into the spotlight with its annual ‘Sweat Lodge Weekender’ party.
This year the ‘Sweat Lodge Weekender’ returns to the grimy, alt-political surrounds of ://about blank, with the party beginning inside the much-loved club on a Saturday night, before it gradually moves its way outside for a Sunday boogie in the venue’s idyllic outdoor garden; making the most of Berlin’s glorious springtime vibes.
One of the big developments for the agency this year has been a large transition in its roster, something that will certainly be reflected in this year’s ‘Sweat Lodge Weekender’. Artists appearing who've joined the agency this year include London’s Jay Shepheard, former Trouw resident Nuno Dos Santos, Swedish techno veteran Staffan Linzatti, plus recent addition to the Maeve Records stable Aera who’ll be performing with a live set.
However, ‘Sweat Lodge Weekender’ will also represent some of the long running talent that’s been part of the agency for years. Sweat Lodge originally bubbled to life in its early form in Tel Aviv, before later establishing its current home in the German capital in 2007, where it launched with the likes of Oliver Deutschmann, Ed Davenport and Iron Curtis already in the fold.
Elie Eidelman is one driving of the forces behind the agency, and will be on hand for a DJ set. He’ll be joined by a wider cast of the agency’s usual suspects that includes Baaz, Joel Alter, Matthias Vogt, Achterbahn, D'Amour, Jona plus a live performance from Snuffo.
It’ll be capped off by what the organisers ensure will be a highlight for the event, an appearance from a top-secret Sweat Lodge artist who typically only appears in Berlin when they’re playing their high-profile residency at Berghain and Panorama Bar, making it one of their rare appearances outside the iconic club. The action will be capped off in the Garden on Sunday night with a back-to-back set from the ‘Sweat Lodge All Stars’, taking it through to the conclusion of the 24-hour marathon event.
