The Black Dog - Very Extended Play EP on Dust Science Recordings

Dust Science Recordings release the Black Dog’s new EP package, titled Very Extended Play. Essentially a remix EP, with four of the five tracks rehashed by Ambivalent, GoldFFinch, Application and War & Peace.

Black Dog step up with Neither_Neither - which morphs from a sparse industrial death march into something more epic with long reversing baselines, pads and strings. Once climaxing noisily, the track dies off, back to murky minimalism.

GoldFFinch’s Hollow Stories Hollow Head remix has a fidgety arrangement that flirts with Detroit styled chords and skippy drum programming.

War & Peace’s retake on B.O.O.K.S echoes The Young Gods dark ambience. Sleepy atmospherics and glimmering arps fold and unfold over one long chord. Sounds simple - it is - but effective nonetheless. A sort of meditative blank canvass where you insert your own imagery. Personally I envisioned a spacial coming-of-age moment - like a scene from a Spike Jonze movie; a community of lost hipsters wandering hand-in-hand into a glacial abyss. It was very moving.
