Marcos In Dub joins UK label New Violence with a strong tech house EP. Marcos has progressively established himself on the European circuit with appearances at The Watergate, Panorama Bar plus a busy schedule in his Madrid hometown. His residencies at Goa and Himmel have honed his no-nonsense trademark tech house sound which has picked up heat from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Karotte and Damian Lazarus.
The Weird World EP is a 4 tracker aimed specifically for the late night dance floors. Title track Weird World has rolling effects that flange giddily, squelchy bass stabs and tangy percussion. It’s wonked out and trippy, the kind of tool that ticks over nicely mid set.
Third Son’s remix of Weird World steps up into more anthemic territory. His bass programming reeks of Spirit Catcher - which isn’t a bad thing. Whilst driving, it still managed to be spacious and atmospheric.
Phineal is that type of jingly jangly tech, a cross between Maurizo and the minimal inflections of Minus. It chugs along, providing an ideal tune to layer up in the mix. Concluding with Jens Bond & Jacob Phono take on Phineal. Clicky drums fidget along to this one - a minimal composition unpinned with a coiled bass undulating violently. Fitting for a such label.
