Percolate's 3rd Birthday at Corsica Studios 20/11/15 - Review

Percolate have, quite frankly, smashed 2015. They have thrown all manner of wild and wonderful parties with some mega headliners, crazy concepts and never to be forgotten surprises - and their third birthday would be no exception. In three years Percolate have really carved out their own little niche in the London scene, and on Friday they exploited it once again.

The venue was the always assured Corsica Studios, with its array of rooms and underground aesthetics, playing host to sets form K15, Marquis Hawkes and Andrés amongst others. Soon as we arrive the place is already bumping with eager raving beavers already on the floor. The sound is spot on, the lights and lasers are warming in hue and the beats are on tap from K15. This Londoner is a fresh talent in the house world thanks to releases on Wild Oats, but has been doing his hip-hop do for a while. His beats are perfect for the early hour, get people loosening up their limbs as more and more flow into the venue. There are people of all ages, colours and creeds here, but everyone’s here for the same reason, making for an atmosphere that’s inclusive and spine-tinglingly tight all night long.

In Room 1, Dixon Avenue and Houndstooth affiliate Marquis Hawkes did a fine job of jacking out the house beats, the acid, the ghetto tech and the more playful kickers that keep crowds fully charged. After him, the vibe switched right up with Detroit bad man and Slum Village DJ Andrés. He served up his dusty, melody rich and playful house, all with that signature hip-hop slant. His own tunes featured, though he came through with plenty of classics from through the ages, and his mixing was quick, raw, and energetic and kept the floor hooping and yelping til the early hours.

In Room 2, Mosca was displaying his DJ dexterity with a mammoth 7-hour set that was rich in house and techno, as well as a mischievous smattering of dance-hall and hip-hop, while The Colombian saw a Percolate family and friends throw down curated by Krywald & Farrer.

Percolate’s a party for those in the know, and the sea of smiles all night long is testament to the wonderful formula of their endeavours.
