Interview with Made in Italy Ibiza Productions: Rossano Lucidi & Alessandro Gaeta

Flower Power is Ibiza’s longest running club night, the legendary party has been celebrating peace, love and the hippie spirit since Pacha’s inception in 1973, and is one of the weekly highlights of the summer season. Immersed in the sights, sounds and aromas of the 60s and 70s, it invented the infamous club street - parade and has become an Ibiza institution, attracting a huge, glamorous VIP contingent. We catch up with Made in Italy Ibiza productions team; Rossano Lucidi & Alessandro Gaeta ahead of the London Summer event at Ministry of Sound which takes place July 9th, to see what it’s like going on the road with Flower Power.

Quintino Batteli has been managing this team for years and he is the designer of all the Made in Italy Ibiza Productions’ shows...Who is involved in the Flower Power production, what skills do they have and who does what?
We have a team of engineers that is in charge of the design of the structure and decoration of Flower Power. Quintino Batteli has been managing this team for years and he is the designer of all the Made in Italy Ibiza Productions’ shows.

What makes Ministry of Sound the right place for the London event? What does the club allow you to do?
It is a fabulous club, the perfect place to host Flower Power in London. The brand is very well connected to Ibiza, which allows a perfect understanding of the concept and the ethos of the night. We mustn’t forget that Ministry of Sound has been one of the greatest promoters that have collaborated with Pacha. They know the brand well, as they also know Flower Power.

The younger & older generations share a universal philosophy that speaks about love, respect, & celebration & of course of the music...How do you get all the gear over, or do you source it in London?
We ship everything from Ibiza in two trailers filled with all the décor, costumes and all the elements that you can see at the party.

How authentic is the experience and how does it compare to the early days of Ibiza, do you think you really manage to capture the spirit?
Absolutely, the spirit of the party is in the heart, the rules of time do not work at Flower Power. The younger and older generations share a universal philosophy that speaks about love, respect, and celebration and of course of the music that define contemporaneity.

What makes a good night for you - what are the key ingredients aside from the music? Lights, visuals, decor, fancy dress?
Everything adds; if Flower Power has lasted so long it’s because we take care of the small details. We give relevance to all the aspects of the party that deserve it. But what really matters for us during the night is the number of smiling faces, arms in the air and longing to dance we see on the dance floor.

But what really matters for us during the night is the number of smiling faces, arms in the air and longing to dance we see on the dance floor...How do you like coming to the UK, how does it compare to other places in Europe?
The musical base for Flower Power comes mainly from the UK: The Beatles, The Rolling stones, Cream, Pink Floyd… the number of bands and British artists is endless. This is why the UK is not just another country for us, so we always come and enjoy it in a very special way. This is our second visit to London, the first party was last year and it was a real success and we are hoping this year it will be even greater.

What will be different from last year, what new stuff will there be?
Each Flower Power party is different, depending on the crowd, the soundtrack chosen by DJ Piti for that specific moment, the venue where it takes place… and also in Pacha Ibiza we have new decoration, lights, costumes… so the party at Ministry of Sound it will feature a different look from last year.
