Grzegorz Demianczuk and Wojciech Taranczuk, better known as Catz ’N Dogz, have been at the forefront of quality electronic beats for over a decade already. Originally from Poland, they conquered all the world with their varied, engaging sets, playing at such massive festivals as BPM, Electric Daisy Carnival, Movement Detroit or Bestival. With Essential Mix, Mixmag cover and a firm position in RA TOP 100 under their belt, the guys keep solidifying their status as one of the most creative and hard-working duos in the world of house. Most of their music has been released on Dirtybird, Mothersip and Get Physical as well as their own Pets recordings and its vinyl-only sibling STEP. Their latest LP, Basic Colour Theory, was chosen as one of Top 10 Albums of 2015 by DJ Mag, and earlier in 2013 They Frontin track was nominated for Best Track at WMC Awards.
Carl is very charismatic & the atmosphere that he creates is unique. The parties we played were always great & full so you can’t ask for anything else as a DJ...This summer, Catz ’N Dogz enjoy the privilege of playing for the final chapter of Music Is Revolution by Carl Cox at Space – their gig on the Terrace will take place on August 30. One week later, on September 7, they will join Paradise crew at DC10. Anticipating that, we had a chance to talk with Greg about the duo’s relationship with Ibiza, about the life of a freshly married DJ and about the pets that the owners of Pets have at home.
What's your current mood right now? Where are you, and what are you planning to do right after the interview?
It’s Saturday, we had Friday off so we’re full of energy starting the weekend!! On our way to Amsterdam now to play a festival, and on Sunday we go to play an open air in Greece.
How do you feel about the last season of Carl Cox at Space Ibiza? You used to play for this party several times before...
It’s such a shame that it’s the last season. It’s definitely the best party on the island and the best party at Space. Carl is very charismatic and the atmosphere that he creates is unique. The parties we played were always great and full so you can’t ask for anything else as a DJ. We are definitely going to miss it.
I remember the first party we played there was for Native Instruments in the very small room upstairs behind the VIP...And what about Space in general? What are the craziest and funniest memories that you have ever had with this club - both as DJs and as partiers?
Space is always good and we have a lot of stories. As a clubber it’s one of the best places to listen the music and get spaced out.
For a DJ it’s one of the best places to play sound-wise and party-wise. We were partying a lot there and it was always good. I remember the first party we played there was for Native Instruments in the very small room upstairs behind the VIP.
We were playing live as 3 Channels and I remember we squeezed all our equipment, laptops, synths and effects on 2 turntables as the DJ booth was super small. The party was awesome and we know we wanted to DJ there next time.
What was the initial idea for your fresh Elixir video? Why did you get inspired by retro style?
We worked with Kasia from Jaunt Films from London on this one, she found on E-bay that somebody was selling a copy of a very old movie about a famous British explorer. The Elixir track is very mysterious, so the forgotten story from this movie fitted very well as a visualization for the track. We usually have some images when we do a track in our minds and we like to work with artists and VJ’s.
We usually have some images when we do a track in our minds & we like to work with artists & VJ’s...On September 7 you are playing for Paradise in DC10. If someone has a chance to visit just one party in DC10, how would you explain to them the essence of Paradise's magic?
It’s simply always great, both rooms are always full, music is fantastic and everybody’s dancing. It’s a clubbers paradise.
How is your Pets Recordings label doing? Which exciting releases will be out on it in the next couple of months?
You should definitely check the new EP from Matthias Kaden with two huge tracks we are playing a lot in Ibiza. Our summer “VA - Home is Where The Pool Is” just came out with 4 big tunes from Eats Everything, Kim Ann Foxman & Shaun J Wright, Stefano Rittieri and an edit of Gemini track made by Walker & Royce.
After the summer we have some nice EP’s coming out on our vinyl-only label STEP and another album on Pets from Netherlands young producer Thorstenson, with remixes from Cab Drivers, Ashworth and Gerd.
Do you have any cats or dogs yourself? Or any other pets? If you could have a most exotic pet in the world, which would it be and why?
I have 2 dogs, small French bulldog and huge 70kg Cane Corso, both are sweet, Voitek doesn’t have any animals at the moment. I actually know exactly what “exotic animal” I would like to have – ANTS colony
Greg, congrats on your wedding!!! Tell us honestly please, how tolerant is your wife to you being a DJ, touring actively and having many admirers?
Thanks! She’s great and I’m thankful for that, as we’re touring a lot and also I’m working a lot in the studio and office, so she’s very tolerant. We go from time to time on tour together which is always good fun. The most important is to have a good balance between parties, work and daily life, that’s the key.
