Interview with Richard Stone, the brains behind Ritual

Ritual made such an impact on the London club scene over summer that they simply had to come back for more. Their parties became known for the great production and colourful atmospheres as well as the on-point sounds, and that will be the case again this autumn as they line up a series at EGG London.  Each of the afternoon events plug a real gap and go down in the newly refurbished main room at Egg with its Flipside sound system.

Ritual's ethos is to provide a fun daytime event with forward thinking House & Techno music with an up for it diverse welcoming crowd...On top of this Ritual will get more performers, wild projections, CO2 cannons and loads of dancers involved, as well as more visual treats and extras from The Bearded Butler, set creators of The Secret Garden Party, who will transform the space. It all kicks off on November 5th from 1pm - 10pm with two secret guests from Hot Creations plus Leftwing & Kody. We caught up with Richard Stone, the brain  behind Ritual to find out a bit more about what’s to come...

What is the vibe and mission of Ritual for those that don’t know…
Ritual's ethos is to provide a fun daytime event with forward thinking House & Techno music with an up for it diverse welcoming crowd. As promoters we felt there wasn't much happening in London on a Saturday daytime, so there was a gap in the market for people like us who'd rather be in bed tipsy by midnight and still be able to get up on Sunday and seize the day! Basically we're not the spring chickens we used to be anymore and can't let go of the party lifestyle just yet!

And who is involved in the night, what experiences do they have? What are their backgrounds?
Ritual is run by me, Rich Stone (Stonez) and my partner Dan Healy (Healy). We're both DJs and Producers and have been involved in various events over the years including Confession in London as well as some ventures in the Med. Indigo People are heavily involved in our parties, they supply us world class dancers and performers and create amazing costumes which really raise the energy of the room every time!

Tell us about the winter series you have planned - what informed the booking policy?
The Winter series is due to kick off on Saturday the 5th of November with two of our favorite acts in the form of Leftwing & Kody as well as our unannounced guests. A duo that are currently blowing up fast and dominating the festival and club scene!

The Bearded Butler guys have helped us create the sets at our previous parties and are always coming up with creative new approaches. Can you tell us about the secret special guests you have planned at all or give us any tips?
We can't say too much as they have other announced London gigs around the same time and squeezed us in as a favor, but they are the hottest duo in the House & Techno scene right now and their latest release is a real contender for the track of the year! I first heard Richy Ahmed drop it on a gig we were both on in Greece and knew we had to book them! ;)

Tell us about The Bearded Butler and what they will bring to the party…
The Bearded Butler guys have helped us create the sets at our previous parties and are always coming up with creative new approaches. They will be kitting out the newly refurbished Main Room at Egg London in our Amazonian themed Ritualistic style!

What sort of crowd is your night aimed at - have you get an audience in mind specifically?
We love our crowd to be as diverse as possible, everyone is welcome with a positive attitude. We just ask people to try and make an effort with the dress code with our preference being: "Tribal | Tropical | Hedonistic I Think Mad Max meets Pocahontas in the Amazon"

What were some of the hardest things about getting Ritual off the ground?
Securing the venue and line up, no one had ever done this style of events at Madison so there was some back and forth convincing the main agency we used to let us have access to their top tier acts.

One of the highlights for me was Steve Lawler's set on my birthday, he absolutely smashed it! The guy is a real inspiration as a DJ...Massive shout to Will & Tommi from NGE agency for giving us a shot! They are one of the most professional agencies in the game and really have a great roster of world class acts. They're a pleasure to work with.

And what were the highlights from your summer series?
One of the highlights for me was Steve Lawler's set on my birthday, he absolutely smashed it! The guy is a real inspiration as a DJ. It was nice to have my family and a lot of friends there for it also.

Another high was when Patrick Topping drop his remix of 'Raumakustik - Dem A Pree' before it was released. The place erupted and he very kindly gave us a copy to use for our video, which is available to view on our website: www.ritual-ldn.com

What is the sort elf London clubbing right now - healthy or hard, would you say? What are your thoughts?
There is a lot of competition in London so for me we had to do something a bit different to stand out, there's not much security in the market and you're only as good as your last event so we aim to really focus on remaining fresh and pushing the brand forward.

What are you most looking forward to about the next Ritual events?
We're looking forward to our Launch at egg on the 5th of November with extended operational hours this time 1 - 10pm, and we are 110% certain Leftwing & Kody together with our unannounced acts will absolutely nail the music! We've got some really good fresh emerging London talent to support them along with Jhonsson from Hot Since 82's camp. We hope to see you there!
