Still in its infancy Do Not Sleep is a label that never fails to intrigue and impress. Next up to release on the imprint is Tommy Vercetti, an emerging talent, who’s received praise from some notable names within the scene. Blue Submarine EP is 4-tracks that help showcase the young, Midlands-based producer’s real potential.
The title track ticks along with tight percussion and soul-touched groove that sets the tone. Label A&R head and long-term associate Darius Syrossian provides the remix, adding hard kicks and tripped out effects that beef up the original.
‘Misch’ follows the same percussion-led pattern of the opener, awash with deft pads that build with stuttered drums and light touches into a hypnotic roller.
‘Where’s Ya Flute’ sees Vercetti bring the party. Arguably the record’s stand out moment, the track encapsulates a carnival atmosphere of tribal rhythms, an addictive, rising groove and body-jacking bassline. It rounds off another strong release from one of the year’s most underrated labels.
