After deep house has had its day in recent years, there seems to be a return to a tougher, harder, more ravey house style. Labels like Red Lunar Records are right at the heart of the latest evolution and now they come up with another fine EP. Entitled Apache, it is by the talented Jacky and comes with remixes from De La Swing and Alexis Raphael.
It is hard to pick a favourite here as all of the cuts come on strong and leave an indelible mark. 'Pipski' is turbo charged, dipping and bouncing about and taking your head with it. Punchy kicks have you on your toes and sweeping synths and filters really keep things nicely driven.
'Apache' opens things up in ravey style with sweetly programmed drums, fresh synth stabs and great cut up vocals. It is a sweat inducing, jacked up jam that cannot fail to stand out. The De La Swing remix is more bass driven and dirty, with a wild acid line and sweeping filters all adding to the pressure.
Last but not least, Alexis Raphael then closes out with a playful tune that has real colour in its synths and soul in its vocals. As ever then, this is another on point EP from this fine label.
