As much as we bang on about off week, we'd be mad not to give credit to Sónar festival. And, after 23 years and counting, credit is given where it's due.

Since 1994,
the minds behind this world famous bash have been striving tirelessly to develop their ethos, melding technology, music and visual art - doing so like no one else.

The festival, which runs for three days and two nights, between 15 - 17 June, 2017 has been fighting the good fight since day one, its avant-garde and experimental tendencies have ultimately provided everyone else with a global platform. A yearly fixture for true electronica and dance fans to receive a healthy dose of the new and cutting edge. For this and more, we really do have a lot to thank them for.

Revellers can soak up a selection day of parties and concerts at the newly developed Fira Montjuïc, before making haste to the huge exhibition grounds of Fira Gran Via de L'Hospitale, on the outside of town for the night series.

Read on for our top picks this year to enable you to better navigate Sónar Festival 2017

Bjork - 4 hour DJ set - Weds 14 June
We've mentioned it before and we'll mention it again, because, it's an opening show of colossal size, featuring four hours inside the mind of the the Icelandic phenomenon.

If you have ever seen Björk do a DJ set, you'll have been left wondering what just happened and this will be no exception. Drop everything and experience this.

Sónar by Night - Fri 16 June

If you are after a bit of rough though, Dubfire, DJ Shadow and Nina Kraviz team up for some techno, whilst Nicolas Jaar returns to SónarPub in Sónar Village to present a live 'Sirens' show.

Little Dragon is also performing at the colossal site. The venue itself has been transformed to stimulate sensory overload; envisage a futuristic lighting rig and other worldly decor.

Sónar by Night - Sat 17 June
Although you probably will want to experience the day time grounds, this instalment was a no brainer for us. Again, the main stage boasts a range of acts, but a live set from Vitalic piqued our interest. French duo Justice and hip hop legends De La Soul also appear.

Over at the Sónarlab stage, Carl Craig will be performing his Versus Synthesiser Ensemble alongside disco selector Hunee and Marcel Dettmann. There is a lot going on here, as you navigate your way through the never ending space.

Sonar Festival takes place between 15 - 17 June in various venues in Barcelona. Tickets and more information can be found at the official Sonar website.
