Pass the hankies as we select our favourite parties and closings of the 2017 season.
And just like that, it’s almost over. Few things pass quicker than an Ibiza season. It seems like only yesterday we were being ushered out of Circoloco opening in search of an afterparty and here we are, almost at the finish line of yet another epic year of raving in Ibiza.
2017 has seen another year of tumultuous change on the island. Some of the biggest brands, Richie Hawtin’s ENTER and Carl Cox’s Revolution, failed to reappear, while a new cast of parties emerged to take their places. A swarm of celebrities besieged the island’s VIP clubs all season long - most notably Conor McGregor fresh from his Floyd Mayweather fight. And behind the scenes, the island simmered with tension as the obsession with VIP culture drove prices up and affordable accommodation, for those living on the island, became a distant dream.
But always, we’ve been spoiled for musical moments and club experiences and to help you decide which ones to prioritise on your last Ibiza jaunt of 2017, we present our Top 30 Closing Parties.
Few closing parties create the kind of hyperbole that Circoloco does every year. It has long held the reputation as the closing to end all closings, partly because it was always the last big finale of the season. There are plenty more parties carrying on into the Autumn this year, but none carry the air of finality to them quite like DC10’s flagship party.
And few make such a mark on the global clubbing scene.
Circoloco closing routinely attracts a dedicated influx of people from all over the world from all walks of life. Young ravers from the UK or Italy? Celebrities with a nose for trouble? Industry party people from South America, the USA or Australia? The flock of friends that have been made on its dance floor over the years, reunite there each year for its opening and closing and amount to a tradition that is almost more important than the line-up itself. It’s still too early to reveal who exactly will be playing, but it’s certain that all of the club’s biggest and favourite players from the season will be rocking all three areas for one last extended session.
Circoloco at DC010, Monday 9 October. Lineup: TBA
Amnesia celebrate another year of being the island’s dominant superclub. The long running venue had stiff competition from Hï Ibiza’s fresh faced programming, Pacha’s refreshed focus and newfound interest in techno, and a reinvigorated Privilege. But despite some parties struggling to maintain busy floors, its mainstays, Music On and newcomer Elrow, flew the flag strongest.
Another great Ibiza raving tradition, Amnesia closing is routinely up there with Circoloco as one of the island’s wildest parties. While the club normally shuts at 6am, the closing usually stretches over twenty four hours. Last year the authorities enforced a closure midway through proceedings so let’s hope this year’s party goes back to it’s traditional lengthy stint. If you’re still standing near the end, you might just enjoy a few free drinks on the house as the club gives away its remaining bar stock. Musically, it will be a feast for tech house lovers. Woomoon cap off a hugely successful season of parties at Cova Santa in the north of the island by hosting the Main Room with Damian Lazarus headlining a session that’s sure to be overflowing with Burning Man style emo house.
Amnesia closing - Saturday 14 October. Lineup: Eats Everything, Martin Buttrich, Davide Squillace b2b Matthias Tanzmann, Damian Lazarus, Lee Burridge, Ilario Alicante, Blond:ish, Mar-T, Rampue, Hector Couto, Luca Donazelli.
Elrow is one of this season’s great success stories. Saturdays at Amnesia have always been a tricky night to pull off as the day has always been a changeover day for holiday makers. But just like Music On transformed Fridays at the club into an Amnesia powerhouse, Elrow has completely owned Saturdays on the island.
Elrow’s story is of course not just limited to Ibiza. The brand has blown up worldwide after branching out from its original home venue of Row 14 with parties extending around Europe and the Americas, and a two day festival Elrow Town in London. For the closing they invite one of the brand’s favourite DJs, Eats Everything, to lock horns with Seth Troxler and residents for what should be another explosion of colour and carnival style antics.
Elrow at Amnesia - Saturday 30 September. Lineup: Seth Troxler, Eats Everything, Marc Maya, Toni Varga, Bastian Bux
Paradise are no longer Ibiza spring chickens. Jamie Jones’ DC10 party was an instant hit in 2012 but despite no longer being the new kids on the block, Wednesdays at DC10 are still a roadblock. The lineups have played a huge part as there is always a head turning entry. From Jamie’s back to backs with artists like Craig Richards, Joseph Capriati or Tale Of Us, to hot up and comers like Peggy Gou or legends like Harvey, the party has delivered some of the island’s more adventurous selections.
The closing will inevitably be another wild ride, bringing together the biggest players from Jamie’s Hot Creations family with heavyweights Sasha, Nicole Moudaber, Steve Lawler and Masters At Work duo Kenlou (Louie Vega and Kenny Gonzales).
Paradise at DC10 - Wednesday 27 September. Lineup: Masters At Work, Jamie Jones, Sasha, Nicole Moudaber, Steve Lawler, Richy Ahmed, Patrick Topping, Catz N Dogz, wAFF, Route 94, Detlef, Mark Jenkyns
A few years ago Mercury Rising's star resident Harvey was marooned in the USA, unable to leave because of visa restrictions. The situation propelled the mystery that surrounded him into overdrive and when the restrictions were lifted, the world as the saying goes, became his oyster and promoters clambered over each other to book him.
Now, it’s fair to say, Harvey is one of the most choosy of the big DJs. It takes a lot to tempt the UK’s most charismatic DJing legend to play an event. And this summer for the third time, Ibiza has been royally spoiled as he has taken up residence on the island for the latter part of the season once again. His parties at Pikes are amazing. To catch a DJ of his abilities and range playing in the intimate confines of one of the most infamous hotels in music history is very special.
Ibiza you have been royally spoilt and this closing will easily be one of the best and a refreshing alternative to the big room, ice cannon affairs on offer elsewhere.
Mercury Rising at Pikes - Monday 25 September. Lineup: DJ Harvey
Ibiza has endured a tricky season this year with many controversies dominating the conversations of those who live on the island. It’s been a jungle out there this Summer but monthly salvation has been on hand courtesy of Wax Da Jam.
Nestled in the north of the island at Las Dalias, Ibiza’s oldest club, the party is a favourite with locals but word has been spreading to tourists too. Each event this summer felt special with both of the 100% Disco back to backs with Seth Troxler and Nightmares On Wax demanding to be remembered as two of the season’s biggest highlights. Although they’ve pulled some impressive names, for the closing they bring back their original crew for the All-Stars party on Thursday 14 September. The names on the flyer are only a slice of the magic. Las Dalias’ free flowing hippie vibe is just as key.
Wax Da Jam - Thursday 14 September. Lineup: Nightmares On Wax, Negghead, Shovell, Wolfgang Haffner, Ricky Ranking, Kazim, Kazim, Kazim, Buckley
Privilege has been reborn this summer.
After last year’s epic goodbye to Space, Carl Cox chose the venue to host his return to the island earlier in the season, and Resistance managed to tempt Sasha & Digweed, arguably dance music’s original superstar back to back act, to play together once again. Tale Of Us’ Afterlife party can claim a fair share of the responsibility for Privilege’s comeback also. Not only has the entire club muscled back up to the top of the game, but the Lineup for this event is arguably one of the hottest of the closings.
A joint closing between Afterlife and Privilege it brings star power in the form of three of techno’s biggest draws in Nina Kraviz, Rødhåd and Tale Of Us. And from the more melodic side of dance music, it lures Dixon and Solomun.
Afterlife & Privilege at Privilege - Thursday 28 September. Lineup: Alex.Do, Denis Horvat, Dixon, Konstantin, Mind Against, Nina Kraviz, Recondite, Rødhåd, Solomun, Tale Of Us, Vaal
Marco Carola has taken Friday nights and claimed them for Music On. Now a global phenomenon on the back of its initial Amnesia shin digs, the party is still phenomenally popular even if the lineups aren’t quite up there with previous years. Parting ways with fellow Neapolitan superstar Joseph Capriati was a big loss for the party, as his sets at the club were becoming even more popular than Carola’s last year. Carl Cox’s date was a late surprise and exception to this rule. But despite lacking the firepower of other big closing parties, Music On will pull the crowds regardless and unite the rave foot soldiers with the VIP top deck clientele in the way no other party on the island can.
Music On at Amnesia - Friday 6 October. Lineup: Marco Carola, Stacey Pullen, Leon, Miss Kittin, Oxia, Hugo Bianco
Club nights in Ibiza are a dog eat dog world. Few have survived to tell their individual tales as long as Sven Väths’ Cocoon which clocked up an impressive 18 years of parties this season. Some old Cocoon superstar faces returned to the club this year despite embarking on personal ventures, reinforcing the might of the world’s favourite Ibizan techno party. While it was a tough season for clubs overall, Cocoon’s lineups still provided regular highlights, and any club that can boast Ricardo Villalobos as a resident for this long, must be doing something right.
Cocoon at Amnesia - Monday 2 October. Lineup: Sven Väth, DJ Koze, Henrik Schwarz, Adam Beyer, Ilario Alicante, Dana Ruh
Unusual Suspects provided regular relief for those in search of something different to the usual relentless tech house diet on the island this season.
For fans of minimal, stripped back grooves, it’s been a sanctuary, regularly booking some of the scene’s biggest players. Artists like Thomas Melchior, Barac, Raresh and Steve O’Sullivan have provided some of their biggest highlights this Summer and when the dry ice fogs over, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re in Berlin or Bucharest at times.
For the closing they reunite Romanian favourites Raresh and Praslea under their Praslesh alias alongside Italian unsung hero Federico Grazzini and residents.
Unusual Suspects at Sankeys - Thursday 5 October. Lineup: Praslesh, Mark Antonio, Federico Grazzini, Frank Storm b2b Ignacio Moralez, Robert Capuano, Rick Maia.
Maceo Plex has broken the mould at Pacha this year, inviting some of the biggest players in techno into a club that had seemingly turned into a refuge for soulful house heads. Modeselektor have blazed a trail through some of this year’s finest festivals and top the bill alongside Maceo, Jennifer Cardini and one of Amsterdam’s best selectors, Young Marco.
Mosaic at Pacha - Tuesday 3 October. Lineup: Maceo Plex, Modeselektor, Jennifer Cardini, Young Marco.
You have to be made of stern stuff to embark on your own residency in Ibiza. Making the jump from being a hot guest to a big buck resident has burned quite a few big DJs over the years and even though his meteoric rise at Circoloco was brief, its fair to say South Africa’s finest DJing export has smashed his first season at Hï Ibiza.
Black Coffee at Hï - Saturday 30 September. Lineup: Black Coffee, more TBA.
One of the kings of the island makes his second appearance in this list. Solomun’s simple but hugely effect +1 concept has partnered the German star alongside some exceptional bookings this year. His party with Sven Väth was just one of the highlights and the closing honours a swapsy with Tale Of Us’ Afterlife that allows both artists the kind of lengthy set times that invite magic to happen.
Solomun + 1 at Pacha - Sunday 15 October. Lineup: Solomun, Tale Of Us.
Hyte are still relative newcomers to the world of big brand dance music. But in a short time they’ve established themselves more than capable of serving up some of techno’s best lineups. Wedged into a Lineup of Amnesia parties that is dominated by tech house and techno, it’s not been easy for them to stand out. But they have a savvy eye for bookings and this season paired Loco Dice with Kenny Dope, lured Carl Cox back to Amnesia for the first time in years and renewed their partnership with London’s Fuse.
HYTE at Amnesia - Wednesday 4 October. Lineup: Loco Dice, Enzo Siragusa, Nick Curly, Benny Rodrigues b2b Ferro, Yaya b2b Caleb Calloway, Pan-Pot, Chris Liebing, Cuartero, Cuky b2b Debby Coda
Darius Syrossian’s unstoppable juggernaut sticks two fingers to dance music’s holier than thou brigade and the ravers love him for it. Do Not Sleep has been massive at the club since it started, however this year's move of billing Drumcode's Alan Fitzpatrick as a new resident has given the party an extra shot in the arm.
Do Not Sleep at Sankeys - Tuesday 26 September. Lineup: Special Guest, Darius Syrossian, Mar- T, Alan Fitzpatrick, Luca Donzelli, Jami Roy, Special Guests.
Filling the shoes of one of Ibiza’s all time greatest iconic clubs can’t be easy. Hï Ibiza have faced an uphill battle to break out of the shadow of Space but they have done so armed with a cheque book capable of putting on some of the island’s best production and biggest lineups. The closing pairs Jamie Jones and Dice in a tech house back to back that steals the show. The rest of the lineup is pretty formidable also.
Labyrinth is another eye catching feature of Pacha’s weekly party lineup. And another example of a debut season for a DJ making the transition from hot guest to star resident. Hot Since 82 has given Pacha a shot in the arm this season and hauls in one final killer lineup to make it to the finish line.
Labyrinth at Pacha - Friday 6 October. Lineup: Hot Since 82, Heidi b2b Cassy, Eats Everything, Matthias Meyer.
Hï Ibiza’s parent club Ushuaïa turn out another star laden lineup to close this season. Once a big name resident in his own right, these days Luciano is back to being a gun for hire now that his Vagabundos brand no longer has a weekly home. Jackmaster’s versatility and ability to mix up the genres adds a twist to an otherwise all tech house lineup.
Ushuaïa Closing - Saturday 7 October. Lineup: Luciano, Kölsch, Jackmaster, Joris Voorn, Andrea Oliva, Dublin, Francisco Allendes.
Abode is one of the season’s biggest success stories thanks to a devout following that has followed the party from its home in London. Musically it’s a UK tech house affair and a favourite with the workers.
Abode at Sankeys - Sunday 17 September. Lineup: Sante b2b Sidney Charles, Citizenn, Leftwing & Kody, Russ Yallop, Ellie Cocks, GW Harrison, Jimmy Switch, Lindsey Matthews, Will Taylor.
It’s always hard to predict but Zoo Project might just be the last of the big closing parties. Stretching the Summer towards the end of October is a brave move but Zoo have a loyal following to fall back on and as the party is all about the punters and not big names, the minimal DJ spend allows them the luxury of closing a bit later than everyone else. Underground may yet beat them to it of course but for one last blaze of glory, you can’t go wrong at Zoo.
Zoo Project Evolution at Benimussa Park - Tuesday 17 October. Lineup: Stephane Ghenacia, Thomas Roland, Special Guests, Knostra x Mate, Federico Grazzini, Jeancedric, Ecstatic Dance.
Rumours at Destino - Sunday 15 October. Lineup: Guy Gerber, Bill Patrick, Special Guest.
Solomun Live at Destino - Thursday 5 October. Lineup: Solomun, Recondite

Glitterbox at Hï Ibiza - Friday 29 September. Lineup: Louie Vega, Dimitri from Paris, Session Victim, Roger Sanchez, Barbara Tucker (live), Simon Dunmore, DJ Pippi, Melon Bomb.
Cuckoo Land at Ibiza Rocks - Sunday 17 September. Lineup: Sonny Fodera, Latmun, Max Chapman, Matt Tolfrey, Jamie Roy, Ten Story.
Tribal Sessions at Sankeys - Saturday 14 October. Lineup: Tucillo, Anika Kunst, Isbel & Jon, Pedro Vicario, Boke, Jay Nortown, Marcos in Dub, Alex Dee, Remi Vanetti.
Keep On Dancing at Heart - Thursday 5 October. Lineup: TBA
Saga at Heart - Sunday 24 September. Lineup: Bedouin
Pure Pacha at Pacha - Saturday 7 October. Lineup: Bob Sinclar, Bassment Jaxx, Todd Terry, Lunnas
Vatos Locos at Underground - Friday 22 September. Lineup: Hector, TBA
