You won't get a lot of sleep, but for a weekend of one adrenalin rush to another, you can't beat a good party in the snow. As the ski season approaches, we select Europe's five best snow raves.
Perhaps the most famous of the snow sports festivals, Snowbombing arguably navigated the path for others to follow. Since it began in 2000 in the small French resort of Risoul, Snowbombing has become an institution in winter raving that sprawls the Austrian Mayrhofen mountain range. It won the 2016 Best Small Festival in the European Festival Awards and from Fatboy Slim to Tinie Tempah to Dave Clarke, the diversity of the line ups each year are dedicated to those who love to ski and do not prejudice against genres. That said however, the bookers keep an eye on underground trends and acts like Peggy Gou, Bicep and Jackmaster have been announced for the April 2018 edition. Glistening white slopes await ravers on one of the finest ski resorts in Europe.

Ricardo Villalobos and Craig Richards at Caprices
Most snow-sports based trips in Switzerland have breathtaking scenery and five star resorts locked down. None do it quite like Caprice however, which takes being high to a whole new level. The altitude here reaches 3,000 metres above sea level and the mountain views can be safely described as mind blowing.
Last year the heaviest hitters in underground dance music headlined and the lineup included stars like Ben Klock, Jamie Jones and Ricardo Villalobos. The MDRNTY crew appear to have become regulars here after a very successful 2017 summer party cruise, so expect cutting edge sound and lighting.

For anyone with their bags packed and ready to get away sharpish, Polaris Festival is here to save the day. In less than a month, the Swiss festival will kick off in the rich terrain of Verbier. Larry Heard, Seth Troxler, Butch and Praslesh head up the most impressive underground line up of all the snow raves this season from 7-10 December. There is a hearty mix of disco, classic house and techno at Polaris across six themed stages, 2,200 metres above the sea. With shuttles from nearby accommodation, a healthy 50% discount at selected hotels and an inclusive ski pass, this well thought out jaunt is a great option for a quick fix of snow and good music on a budget. Day tickets are around €55.

For seven days at the end of March, the resort of Arinsal in Andorra, in the picturesque Pyrenees mountain range, traditionally gives itself over to Horizon Festival. The mountain top stages, acoustic avalanche arenas and secret forest raves are among the distinct quirks of the festival. Motor City Drum Ensemble, Ben UFO and Floating Points were among the finer artists performing at last years’ event, and a date for 2018 is expected to be announced soon. Next year promises to bring a brand new acoustic chill out area and a production lab for any creative ravers looking to learn a thing or two away from the slopes.

Just a week before Horizon, Snowboxx is set to take over the French ski town of Avoriaz. The event boasts an impressive six stages in the hills including an Igloo stage, a late night Apres stage on a Terrace and a Downtown stage, which provides a neon-visual feast. 1800 meters ‘above the clouds’ and rich in snow parks, Snowboxx’s perks are in abundance. The five star lodges here offer a Christmassy feel to the festival, as they sit an area full of horse-drawn carts and fairy lights. Chase and Status and Fatboy Slim head things up for 2018.

The Italians love a good rave. And in the north of the country, they love a good blast in the snow too. So it's only to be expected that the country would have it's own killer snow sports rave. Snow Sonic is perched high in the mountains above the shores of Lake Santa Caterina.
The event reaches its fourth year this year and particular emphasis is placed on expressing oneself in one of the event's many workshops, dance-floors or ski slopes. Taking a slightly more underground tone than previous years, Bella Sarris and Dana Ruh are heading things up for the 2018 edition of the festival.
