For the first in our new series of interviews where we speak to DJs about life on the road, tech house star Denney tells us his Tour Stories.

After breakout hit 'Low Frequency' catapulted him from bubbling-under act to global tech house star in 2015, Denney has been one of the scene's hardest touring acts. 2017 marked another year of big releases for the UK producer with releases on Crosstown Rebels and Elrow Music, and two massive tracks: 'What's Going On? (featuring Roxanne Shante)' on Pete Tong's FFRR, and 'Back To Basics' on Green Velvet's Cajual. With all that going on, it's safe to assume he's seen his fair share of airplanes and club booths over the past few years.

The last time I got into trouble in a hotel..

We had been after-partying in a hotel and they had a posh reception area with a pond feature in it with goldfish. Being a bit worse for wear, I thought it would be a good idea to take my shoes and socks off and get in it. The hotel wasn't [so] impressed and I got kicked out.

I never get on a flight without..

Ear plugs are a lifesaver. I can't sleep even at home without them now. I tend to totally switch off when flying, I listen to a lot of chill out music and watch a few movies. Flying really doesn't phase me, I just treat it as a bit of solid, chill out time.

The most surreal thing that's ever happened to me while travelling was...

When I was a kid I was obsessed with basketball and last year, while we were in the artist village at Tomorrowland, we bumped into Shaquille O'Neal. It was so random but we had to get a picture.

The most unique place I've ever played was..

Last year I played on the Groove Cruise which is a cruise liner that turns into a four day non stop event that travels from San Diego to Los Cabos in Mexico and back. Myself and Lee Foss ended up playing back to back for four hours in the middle of the Pacific Ocean as the sun came up. It was pretty special.

The daftest thing I've ever done while travelling...

A couple of years ago I played in Zante. I randomly had some friends over there so we got drunk at the gig and then decided to go down the strip which turned into a heavy night. Fast forward to the next morning when the promoter came to pick me up to go to the airport. I woke up feeling like death, on top of my bed, dressed in a 'Minions' T-Shirt, next to a half eaten, chicken kebab with one shoe on. Fuck knows what happened!

The worst flight I ever had...

It was last year on the way to Ibiza. I was sat amongst a 24 man strong stag do from Bournemouth and there was a group of girls sat further up the plane. [My friends] knew one of the girls out the group and she got pissed and started being aggressive. She shouted abuse at the lad sat next to me so he started shouting back at her, this went on for about 45 minutes with the cabin crew trying to calm the situation. Next thing, the girl came running down the aisle and spat directly in the lad’s face and tried to punch him. She then tried to fight another four people on the flight, before standing on her seat screaming at everyone (children included).  When we landed the police had to escort her off, proper buzz kill!

The last place to blow my mind was..

Mexico is one of my favourite places to visit. It's truly beautiful and the food and vibe is incredible.
