With the long, dry January (for those that actually achieved it) finally in the rear view mirror, it's time to let 2018 know you mean business. We select our top five UK events to get things really started.

Octave and Steve Butcher at The Lion & Lamb

The Lion & Lamb is one of the coolest small venues in London. It's still relatively unknown and on the outside looks like a normal, run of the mill, East End pub. Once you cross that threshold and hear the Martin Audio sound system (similar to fabric's infamous Room One) you'll realise it’s quite the opposite. Its 150 capacity venue provides an intimate but intense experience and is the usual after-party spot for Craig Richards and friends' post fabric carry on. This time around though, KBY hosts  Octave and Steve Butcher.

KBY Invites, The Lion & Lamb. 46 Fanshaw St London, London. 1 February. For more info, click here.

Transmission Funk x Shake with Kornél Kovács

Manchester’s Transmission Funk and Middlesbrough’s SHAKE have joined forces for the first time for a killer Leeds debut and Sweden's hard touring Kornél Kovács headlines. Kovács is also one-third of Studio Barnhus, the DJ trio, label and studio collective praised for their diverse work and eye for spotting local talent.

Transmission Funk X Shake at Hifi Club. 2 Central Road, Leeds. 3 February. For more info, click here.

System 10th Birthday

Leeds' leading techno party System isn't holding back for their tenth birthday. Berlin's current hottest export Binh plays back to back with Onur Özer under the duo's Treatment alias. One of Romania's leading minimalists Praslea also guests alongside Fuse power trio Enzo Siragusa, Archie Hamilton and Rossko and longtime residents, Bobby O'Donnell and Annie Errez capably bring up the rear.

System at Mint Club. 8a Harrison St, Leeds. 3 February. For more info, click here.

All Night Desolat Terrace Party with Loco Dice

Studio 338 returned from a tragically induced year long break in 2017. They get  straight to business with this heavyweight lineup for their first event of 2018. Loco Dice brings a strong selection of artists from his Desolat label including Guti, Yaya and Caleb Calloway and Francisco Allendes.

Desolat at Studio 338. 338 Boord Street; Greenwich; London. 3 February. For more info, click here.

Shine presents FEEL MY BICEP

The Belfast born duo, Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson owned 2017, delivering one of the albums and tracks of the year and playing an insane number of worldwide gigs. The chance to catch them returning triumphantly to their hometown to play local techno institution Shine should not be missed. Daniel Avery, Moxie, Corman and the usual Bicep guest, Hammer join them at the newly opened club and former printworks, Telegaph Building.

Feel My Bicep/Shine at Telegraph Building. 124-144 Royal Avenue, Belfast. 3 February. For more info, click here
