The boutique festival favourites return with album number two.
Thai funk influenced trio Khruangbin have become firm boutique festival favourites since signing with Late Night Tales off shoot Night Time Stories back in 2014. And it’s easy to see why—their lilting tremolo guitar licks bend space and time as gentle drums tumble underneath. Add in wandering, rubbery bass and you have a lush world music sound that forces you to lay back, gaze into the night sky and lose yourself in the cosmos.
The Texan group’s sophomore album is another mellifluous fusion of psychedelic funk, yacht rock, world and country music that carries on where the debut left off. The tender, twinkling pieces of smooth licks and harmonic basslines are exotic chill out of the highest order, and the more dynamic, drum lead pieces are finely tuned funk jams with hook laden riffs. As far as bluesy musical love letters go, there will be few better this year.
