Music alone is no longer enough for a festival to stand out. Competition is such that we want more, be that extra curricular activities, art or audio visual exhibitions, a focus on wellbeing or, of course, a stunning location.

Enter Vujaday Music Festival, which takes place from April 4 to 8 on the Caribbean island of Barbados, and is the creation of the highly experienced teams behind Toronto's Coda nightclub, Destiny Events, and the concert, event, and festival promoter Embrace Presents.

With BPM Mexico now wrapped up and SXM Music Festival missing this year, due to the hurricane which decimated Saint Martin, there appears to be a gap in 2018 for an underground music festival, in this region. The key hook of Vujaday is that each of the five days of takes place in a different location on the island and allows the visitor to soak in the natural beauty, white sandy beaches and crystal clear green-blue seas that surround the place.

Firstly, the open air The Tiki Bar features a full menu of 68 cocktails, Pirate’s Cove is located in a snorkelling hotspot and surrounded by coconut palms and thatched umbrellas. Away from the beaches is Cornwall House, up in the mountains, a private estate with its own pool and breathtaking vistas, which take in the sloping hillsides all the way down to the coast.

The Bellevue Plantation (which dates back to 1735) has open green spaces, a swimming pool and bar, and finally Copacabana, with beach chairs, umbrellas and kayaks for you to explore and enjoy in the baking sun.

Musically, the festival is encouraging. Very underground focused with no commercial or EDM acts in sight. Wonderful. The last A-Z of acts confirmed was Art Department, atish, Bedouin, Behrouz, Cassy, Danny Howells, Darren Emerson, Dave Seaman, Dj Tennis , Francesca Lombardo, Gaby Endo, Green Velvet, Justin Martin , Latmun, Lauren Lane, Lee Burridge, Lee Foss, Lee Reynolds (Desert Hearts), Lonely C (Soul Clap), Lost Boy, Mark Knight, Mikey Lion (Desert Hearts), Monroe Music, Nathan Barato, Nick Monaco, Nitin, Solardo, Salomé, The Fitness + Pony (Crew Love), Wolf + Lamb, YokoO, with more acts yet promised.
